Grenades would be great if they had a much farther effective range, AND if the grenade speed was much shorter. Right now grenades are only a flashy way to finish off someone.

I think anyone can place mines. Grenades can also be useful in large group PvP as well. Grenades sort of cover that middle distance for us that is between heavy support weapons and flamethrowers. They are an AOE weapon that works differently than the cone does, they hit within their radius and could be effective to get people out of LoS as well as those in LoS necessary to toss the grenade.

You can't just lay down mines anywhere likein Tribes2 or Planetside. You have to donate them to a minefield which someone had to buy with faction points. It's kinda lame, because there is a big ol pole sticking up that says "Danger Minefield" that warns enemies they are near.
