Thread: Commandos! Help me out?!

Alright. I tried. I honestly tired to drop commando, but I couldn't do it. I love what this profession stands for. I love what it *could* be after the CU. But with the GCW changes coming our way, I need to adapt. Which I don't want to do, but I'd like a way to at least hold my own in PvP.

With that said, I'd like some advice from any master commandos that PvP often on their server. What is the combo that actually works for you? Right now, I'm:

Commando/Pistoleer.

The stats are nice, and I love beig a ranged fighter, but these two professions with each other seem to be of very little use in PvP. Is there any second profession that make commandos formidable in PvP?

wing commander... cool

Any way, you will need a high speed FT, 2.5 or lower.

Hunt people with other people, commandos should be in the back ground while the melee people duke it out.

Do flame areas to every one that is fighting, 1 and 2.

Also you could do some dfensive stacking with your remaining SPs. You will want Dizzy defence, KD defence and some Melee defence, TK helps some also might pick up a bit of fencer.

Any who those are my ideas

I am sticking with TKM because I do not PvP that much

TKM is a decent profession, but I hate the idea of being a melee commando in this game. If ranged wasn't so borked I'd love being a commando/pistoleer.

But right now Melee proffesions are the rulers of PvP.

They have the best defences and such.

Also you would mainly be doing it for the defencive mods that would help you last longer with your main weapon.

Right now, I am 0040 commando, Master Pistol and Rogue, speed capped...The rest is in medic atm...I did have it in heavy weapons support, but trying to find heavy weapons at a WS is an exercise in futility. And they miss too much, even at ideal range on stationary targets...

But, I do well...I'll admit to having some very nice pistols (700ish DE10 (with +80 accuracy modifer at 20 meters), 600ish LP, and 650ish Geo), but I have plenty of PvP timeunder my belt. So I know how to use a gun.

The truth of the matter is, Pistoleer in and of itself is useless except for the dodge, def vs kd, the de10 cert, and geo cert. All the working specials for pistols are in the rogue tree, and BH pistols IV. But you have to be speed capped for them to be effective. With krayted weapons.

Typically thou, I use pistols...if I get a kd with lowblow, I use a flamer. Sadly, the flamer gets used, maybe 10 percent of the time in PvP. Or if I find somoene overt unbuffed...and without any armor on....LOL

The sad fact of the matter is, IMHO, Master Commando is a waste of skill points. The only reason I still have SOME commando skills are:

1) Its my true love profession in swg

2) The coolest weapons in the game

3) Hearing "Shock Trooper/Commando eh? You are brave"...Then having them look at my PvP rating...Which is around 1650 right now (up from 1200), and I just started PvPing again about a month ago. I am not a starport dueler...I go looking for factional PvP at player cities and whatnot. I know what I can kill (just about anything but Jedi and the two guys on Ahazi with the exceptional and legendary T21's). If my main is on line, he's overt. Maybe buffed. Maybe not. But most likely, overt.

4) I love the flamer

5) I refuse to go melee

6) I am NOT going to let the devs beat me and make me surrender all my commando skills...For the 5th time.

I would go BH carbines /commando, and get fast accurate weapons, full auto single stuns/blinds, and dizzies, you get ranged kd's along with suppresion fire. haveWith this combo, it takes LOTS of skill however, bascily, you use your carbine to set them up for the kill, and then use commando to lay the hammer down. HPBC,rockets, and flamethrowers are nice for this, Proton grenades have there uses to....

with you extra skill points, you could either dump them all into medic, or keep the trickshot line of pistols and get novice carbineer plus one box of carbines.

The MP Rogue Commando is pretty good IMO. I used that template for a while and it was quite a blast (especially with the LP, buahahahaha!)

I got a MCommando/MRifle and a MCommando/TKM.

The only problems I have in both PvE and PvP is, that no matter combat profession you bring along to support your commando habbit, is that they will take over.

The power of other professions, speed and usage, make it so you become a Rifleman or a TKM, that uses those light SP skills as main, and commando rarily as secondary.

So how to become viable in PvP?

Take on a strong secondary profession, and just use that in PvP. Unless you can afford rockets or stay far away in the back of the battle to toss nades.

Mcommando/Mrifleman here.
I use rifles in large scale PvP (love that strafeshot2) and a little commando (RL for anit-turret squad).
I use 'nades for jedis and the FT when those melee guys get a little too close for comfort.

1v1 PvP I drop my flames on the guy then start spamming the specials with my rifles. Its kinda funny 'cause sometimes they will get the flames on them and go running off to try to get out of range and get to some water and I just stand there and blast them with my rifles. Once they get to the water they are nice and far away and I can kite them. (It doesn't happen often but when it does it's pretty dang funny).

Same template that I'm working on, although I'm also considering dropping a tree of rifles to pick up some TK meditation (Mantigrue Screecher disease has a way of making you miss meditation).

So it's either gonna be:

Master Commando
Master Rifles
Novice Medic

Or...

Master Commando
3/0/0/0 Teras Kasi
4/0/4/4 Rifleman
Novice Medic

Thoughts?

If Commando and/or Carbineer had any defenses to speak of, I would be that in a heartbeat. As it stands now, the best to mate Commando with is either Rifleman or TKA, IMHO.

Don't bother with HW unless you master. THEN they're awesome.

Its like going to an amusement park and having a group of rogue Llamas preventing people from getting on a ferris wheel or a roller coaster. People going to the amusement park expect animal control to come in and remove the rabid Llamas.

rifles is a hell of alot better if you have that master box. If your not gonna master rifles, I would say don't bother with it, but thats just my opinion.

I am beginning to think I agree with you. A few other people have mentioned taking TKA 3/0/0/0 versus Novice Medic, but I'm still not sure on that.
