Thread: Smuggler/Commando vs. Rifleman/Commando
I've been a Commando/Smuggler for over a year, and played one on TC3.
I didn't care for the way the specials seemed to work with the heavy weapons, compared to the pre-nerf.
So I decided to try rifleman to see how the specials worked with the heavy weapons.
With Smuggler:
I routinely broke 1800-2k with some of my specials, and got in a lot of good solid hits.
I have not done a lot with concussion shot, but have heard good things about it.
Panic shot and low blow are pretty good with heavies, and once, I hit for 7300 using /lastditch and a rocket launcher. (Ha HA! BOOM!)
With Rifleman (using Rifle specials with heavy weapons):
The specials work ok, however... they only seemed to hit about as hard as some of the smuggler specials. Nothing crazy huge.
I did try a T-21 my friend let me borrow. Didn't seem to see a lot of difference with the damage out put, but...
Rifleman specials take a lot more setup than Smuggler (/prone, /cover, /aim, /special vs. BAM!)
My Jawa Ion Rifle/headshot was suprisingly effective, almost like a carbine.
Sniper shot required /cover. /cover wants distance, and would NOT work when I was "close enough to be seen" .
Heavies only work within 25m now. That seems to decrease the usefulness of at least most of rifleman for me.
Not being a rifleman by trade, I probably missed something completely, but my overall impression that smuggler gave me better damage with more combat flexibilty.
And combat flexibility is what tiggers do best.
Uh. Commandos.
Your thoughts?
What MOBs were you hitting with the rifleman/commando template? make sure they were the same ones you fired on with the smuggler/commando template.
I'm currently lvl 70(master commando/4234 rifleman) and I can take out lvl 80 Rebel NPCs in around 5 shots with a flamer.
Sniper shot does not require cover, it requires prone, which makes it hard now with the new LoS rules. The only rifleman move that requires cover is conceal shot.
It was fairly consistent.
First we hunted Verne Bulls on Dath, but most of the experimenting was done on Endor fighting level 78 missioned Robas, (cause they don'tattack as agroup,a great testing critter, and good for getting out novice level XP for our now unfilled branches with the respec) and the occasional random Bark Mite for flavor.
Does anyone have any advice for someone who just respeced to 4400 rifles in addition to commando?
I only have two trees of commando 4040 I think... (was in the middle of a template change and didnt realize the respec wouldnt be a points free for all...) Working on master commando now.

Rifleman now requires a LOT of patience now. I think its much better for PvP than PvE. Cover is a godsend on ambushes.
Rifleman here, checking out commando's world . . . Rifles I find is good for dueling, probably good for pvp battles, too . . .
I would ask . . . how is COMMANDO in pvp?

Oh yes, amazing how much damage you dish out with lastditch when your health is low, I hit a Jedi in a duel for close to 3200 dmg and instantly incapped him.
Heavy Particle Beam Cannon & Lightning Beam Cannon - 40
Rocket Launcher - 64
Acid Stream Launcher - 65.
Seemed my ASL had much better DPS than the RL, so ill be using that for long range then switching to my PFT up close.
