Thread: I'm volunteering to be the next commando correspondent
Hello, folks.
I haven't seen an announcement yet, so I'm volunteering to be the next commando correspondent to the developer community.
As I've said in another thread, I think getting and maintaining another correspondent is key. Hittingthe board with a boatload of disjoint threads with alarge number ofrepliesof various sorts, however well-intentioned,will overwhelm any dev(s) trying to process it all. We do need a single point of contact who will capture, organize, and coherently present our ideas, just like Garibaldi was doing so well. I don't know who is ultimately up to that task, but I think it is critical if we are to achieve significant gains in the near future. That is why I am offering my services.
I haveseen a lot of negative commentary from various embittered folks that I think needs to be filtered to help our cause. I believe we should continue to focus on core problems and refrain from pursuing trivial items. I think the attitude we project from here is critical to our success. We must stop appearing as though we're whining and complaining and accusing the devs of being this and that. We must work to rebuild a positive relationship with the only folks who can truly help us: Q-3PO, Holo, and the devs. I think their willingness to consider our views and act on them will be directly proportional to the consideration and thoughtfulness of our communications to them.
To that end, and putting my money where my mouth is, I am willing to offer myself as the next correspondent for the commandos, if the community would have that. I'vestartedthis thread to test your views on this. The primary problem is that I am not yet a commando, so I currently lackfirst-hand experience. However, I hope to get there soon, remedying this problem. Further, I think I have the right written/analysis skills for the job, and a positive enough attitude to try to avoid immune reactions.
I have my own views on the direction in which I'd like to see the commando profession go, some of which I've presented on another thread. That said, I acknowledge that the objective of the correspondent is to represent the views of the community rather than toimpose his own views. I am in line with this.
I'm putting myself out there on this. I guess we'll see what happens. Please let me know your thoughts.
Thanks.

Nothing personal, but only a person that has played a commando and used a variety of weapons and specials availble to the line should be a valid candidate for the position.
Otherwise your just echoing the masses. That is not the purpose of the Correspondent in my opinion. Besides that the passion will not be there if it is not actually effecting you.
Sorry but you dont have my vote.
I think you'd make a good correspondent if you were a commando, but I agree with the other posts.
But I do agree with you thatthe key to getting Commando fixed to our likinga.s.a.p. is via a correspondent.
Okay, I've read through the first few comments. Thanks for the feedback. Frankly, it is as I expected it would be. I fully understand someone wanting to be represented by someone who's "been there". I have not, as yet. But I am on my way.
As for passion, well, I think this might work to my advantage. Again, frankly, I think there is a little too much passion in many folks' posts. Most commandos are very frustrated (rightly so, I might add) and this is coming across loud and clear in their commentary. I think the SOE community may be turning a deaf ear at this point. I can't be sure without an inside line, of course.
One of Q-3PO's requirements for the job is: "Can you objectively identify relevant issues and distinguish them from simply passionate arguments?" I think they're looking for objective arguments, perhaps even arguments that come from a relatively detached perspective. Another primary requirement he states is: "Do you like organizing information and corresponding with other members of a community?" This is mostly what I'm offering. A clear voice.
His other requirement, "Are you knowledgeable about the Commando profession?", I admit I am lacking in, insofar as experiencing it myself. However, I think the knowledge pool is very deep on this board and can be effectively tapped to this end.
Anyway, I'm not trying to force myself in. I will continue my journey to and through commando and we'll see how things go.

Because of that statement, if you get novice commando you'd have my vote.
