Thread: Master Pistoleer with a Pistol Launcher...

My main goal is to become a Master Pistoleer/Smuggler. My post can seem out of place but I need an answer from Commandos.

I've heard and read that you can't specialize in Launcher Pistol, you get theability to use itwhen you get Novice Commando and then you can use all the pistol specials with it. I need to know if this is true, since I'm planning to get novice commando to get the Launcher Pistol for close range fighting. Is there any skill tree in commando that can enhance the LP efficiency/damage? (I guess I hope not ...)

I'm looking into getting the grenades skill tree too, are those really efficient too? I like the idea of being able to make an AOE blast.

And last but not least, what is a good stat on a LP? I'm looking for a good weapon and since they are not cheap I want to buy the best one I find.

If there's any flaw in my reasonning, feel free to correct me, I'm 2 week old in this game and I'm still working on Master pistoleer so I still have time to correct myself.

Yes, it's true... LP's use the pistol specials you get from pistoleer.

Grenades i can't comment on yet... but there are other posts about them.

I'm two boxes away from master commando and 5 boxes away from master pistoleer(I was 3 boxes away but had to give up some skills). I've also got dirty fighting 3, use to have dirty fighting 4 but had to give it up.

Anyway, the LP works with all pistol specials however it gives HWs XP, not pistol XP except with a few moves like pistol melee defense.

The grenade line is great for getting combat XP, but otherwise the grenades miss a lot and the delay between throwing grenades is very long, and you have to use them in very close range. Ideal range of like 10 meters with an area of effect of around 6 meters. It should read, 'underhand toss grenade' not throw.

be warned, in the future...devs *may* give lp its own line and take away pistol specials for it...and i do hope they do it

From what I see, the grenade line need to be... fixed...

For now, I guess I'll just take Novice Commando so I can use my Pistol Launcher with my Pistoleer moves when I get in melee.

If ever the devs give LP its own line then I'll dump something to train in it. It would be very cool to see special moves for LP.

I agree 150% about this. It makes NO sense that aNOVICE of ANOTHER proffession should be better using a weapon that is not even in THEIR OWN skill tree than a MASTER of the proffession who actually has the certification for that weapon. The logic of that will forever escape me. And then you get guys who ONLY grab novice commando so they can have the launcher cert for pistoleer. Ugh

I dunno. Grenades are kind of fun to kill the runners with (if they actually land).

You get a nifty nice weapons for only 15 pts.

I agree it looks bad for the commandos that are supposed to use this weapon as their main, its kinda sad to see, but as a pistoleer its a plus I'd like to have so I'll take it while it last.

If ever they make a line for the launcher pistol, then I'll be more than happy to specialize in it, even letting down half my smuggler skills to be half a Commando .

Pistoleers really have issues too so I guess every profession its own.

I think the launcher pistol was added so that Commandos have some ability to deal damage at range as anewbie despite the high inaccuracy of the flamethrower and the HAR at that stage (and to give us some way of using our Master Marksman abilities while still gaining Heavy Weapons XP.

I suspect that's it though. Commandos are not supposed to be able to have amazing specials at range, They are all about maximum damage being done from up close.

In that regard, it doesn't bother me of the pistoleers can make better use of "our" weapon...as really they can't, unless they themselves are ALSO Commandos (at at least the Novice level). They become Commandos and happen to bring additional skills to the table when they come...no reason for their skills to become useless in their additional profession. I'm covetous of the Pistoleer's poetntial skill with a launcher Pistol, and I have the option of pursuing Pistoleer to get those skills if I wish. In fact, I have Novice Pistoleer just so I can use Healthshot 2 with it at range, then switch to flamethrower. I can get my prey bleeding and burning at the same time. I don't know how far I'll go in that tree, but I'm glad to have the option.

In any event the Pistoleer looking to use a Launcher as his main weapon has a problem, he needs to work his way to Master Pictoleer with some OTHER weapon first.

While it would be nice to have special Launcher Pistol moves in the Commando line, we are already a powerful combat class...adding anything more would, I think, require some reduction in our other abilities to keep things fair.

Just the same as other profession get some novice skills just to be able to perform one action, I'm thinking medic and med packs here, getting Novice Commando for the certification in Pistol Launcher is only a way to add more diversity to a char.

I never saw personally a Pistol Launcher in action, but to have a weapon with around 70-375 dmg with a speed of around 2.5 (not sliced) with some AP,just add to the experience I will add in PvP. Plus I get to have the explosions and the cool effect everyone love to hate.

I love my launcher pistol. I use it with my smuggler and pistoleer skills. I also love my flametrhrower its just nasty.

Not everyone wants to be a master commando, not everyone wants to be a master smuggler the point is skills are there to allow us to personallize our characters if you want to be a pistoleer that uses a luancher pistol I say go for it.

I love the graphics and explosions and the damage is great to and lets not forget they are planing on making the AT-ST blast damage vulnerable So a launcher will make help do serious damage to them, that is if your a rebel.

Psycks, I'd just like to point out that the launcher pistol is more of a long range pistol, and the dx2 is the best bet at close range. It's an impressive combo, I actually carry 5 differntpistols on me,so I'm ready for anything.

Man, nothing amused me more then when I first got a launcher pistol. The thermo-nuclear weapon of laggy, rocket-seeking, doom. but if you wanna use that at close range frequently, you're a glutton for punishment. Not only will you lag from all the effects, you'll be blinded by lots of smoke and debris. I'm not saying don't do it, but unless they changed the graphics on it when I wasn't looking (and I haven't used it in quite some time), the novelty will where off quickly after you get killed from lag. Just a thought. Otherwise, have a blast! No pun intended.
