Thread: 'Nades for Combat Upgrade

Some things for the CU.


1. Grenades that mimic real life.

2. Concussion grenades: stun damage (low), stun effect, maybe dizzy/knockdown or an either or

3. Tear gas grenades: no damage or maybe a low mind dot, blind/dizzy

4. Flasbangs: blind effect, very fast use, no damage

5. Thermite grenades: degrades gear (although, traditionally, these aren't aoe devices, theyre just put on gear, they'll melt through an engine block in seconds ) maybe they could be used for closequarters turrent/vehicle destrution (at-st's etc)

6. Claymores: technically a mine, but acts more like a directional grenade


If were gonna get special effects, I'd rather see them in this form than any other for multiple reasons. I also am fairly annoyed by the damage types in this game. Acid damage blasters? sigh, the grenade I could almost believe, but hey, I know those who disagree will bring up lightsabers and hyperdrives, but personally, I would like to see acid limited to a very few creatures, maybe grenades (maybe) or mines.


7. Well, while I'm at it, launchers. Make them use ammo instead of being disposable. That way we can equip them and look cool sittin' in the cantina (not to mention it makes more sense as far as real things go. Most disposables are one shotters anyway).


8. Melee: many options. I don't vote for the melee specials or what not (as a master, you can master tkm if you want, easy) maybe an ability that lets us do melee attacks with our heavys. Call it something like 'FixBayonets' or 'ButtStroke', but I think that would be more in character than giving us abilities similar to a tk. Also, maybe give us a close assault shottgun with bayonet that has a short max range, small damage cone, sucks vs armor but can be used in melee as well as short range (I have one of these personally, it even has a bayonet lug, and there is no better close combat wpn to date)



Well, sorry for expanding and the more than one typo I'm sure, but I wanted to get the thoughts out before I fell asleep.

Commandos will most likely only get Grenades fixes/adjustments in the CU...To be honest, there just isn't enough time in the CU to do a complete revamp of our Grenade system...The CU Programmers have confirmed to me that they agree it does need to happen though and should be slated for sometime after the CU (maybe while they are revamping some of the other professions in sort of a CU wrap up)...


The fixes we should see with the CU will hopefully center around our issue of our grenades damaging the user...I've also asked them to address the stack size of our Grenades (5 is just to small)...I've been given the impression that both are very possible for the CU...This doesn't guarentee that it will happen, but it looks good...

The Devs can very plausibly include the grenade system improvements as part of the Weaponsmith profession upgrade. They ARE the ones making the grenades after all.

They need to make them easier for the Weapons Smith to make. The complexity and number of factories involved make the hard to get, as well as our consumable weapons, which use grenades to manufacture.

Thanks for the input and info guys. I guess my main gripe (with JTL as well) is i like reality based fantasy if that makes any sense whatsoever. Or at least some type of consistent logic. This is possible even with a 'level' based game. All in all, SWG has been either very entertaining, or so frustrating I've nearly beat my monitor to death ).


Lets hope that creativity takes it's hold in the next few months while theyre working on the CU.

Fix grenade speed mods, they do nothing. *starts to sounds like a broken record*
