Thread: Why we are the best profession in SWG, a salute to the Commando

It's 1:00 where I'm sitting and thinking, reading the History of the Commando thread and remembering reading the SWG Forums in the weeks leading up to launch and thinking just how cool it would be to be a commando and get cool weapons and blow stuff up and so on and so forth. I remember racing to master marksman and get unarmed IV and finally getting all that combat xpso I could get my hands on a rocket launcher or a flamethrower or any of the cool commando weapons that were sure to await me. I remember getting my first LP and thinking, "I didn't know I wanted to be a pistoleer, but I guess SOE wants me to be one." I remember going to Vyce's (biggest WS on Tarq. which was then the biggest server) shop and seeing a HAR and thinking "That thing looks awsome, so I guess they just left us a little unfinished b/c they're gonna add all our cool stuff in soon."
Needless to say, I soon lost hope in SWG and SOE altogether. I kept my subscription alive and played on and off, always growing frustrated with the state of the profession I had so much hope in and moving on to something else for awhile. At times I have thought, "Why, SOE? Why don't you just dump the flamethrower on some other hapless profession, give everyone grenades and just get rid of the profession you abandoned before you even launched the game. I mean really, was there some BETA tester wielding ANY version so far of the HAR or LP or any of our weapons saying 'Wow, DEV! This commando thing is awsome! I LOVE the HAR, I think you should devote a whole line to it just like the flamethrower, but you know what? All these commando weapons are a little too accurate. I mean really, how could anyone hit a moving target with a stream of fire or a grenade or a rocket launcher.'"
And now, at 1:36, I have finally come to understand you, SOE. You were right all along. Just what is a commando? Are they the ones with the shiny new *cough* CU *cough* weapons? The pleated, trimmed uniforms? No. They are the elites not because of their weapons, badges, or medals (Badges? We don't need no stinkin'badges =P). They are the ones behind enemy lines with a duct taped AK wrenched from the hands of a dead man, a cigar, a no hopes of reinforcements. SOE knew this. They knew that the commando's weapon is his Will. They didn't want just anyone to be able to be a commando, and not just anyone can. Will we get any new weapons or any more attention ever? No. That's because we already have our weapon, we already have our will, hardened after all this time ranting and raving and always keeping that Master commando box and never knowing quite why we didn't give it up. You know what makes commandos, real or imaginary,tough? It's that they don't always have the best weapons or even the right tools for the job, but by God they get it done. And because of that we are the best profession in SWG. That's right, we will spray you with our broken and bugged weapons, and you'll knock us down and watch us flop like fish on the ground, but we'll be back, and we won't forget, because we've got the guts to take up the most ignored and underpowered profession in SWG and make something of it. And whatever we do make of it SOE can't ever take that away, even if they never gave us the shiniest weapon or the right tools for the job. So next time you're staring down a TKM, BH, etc.with nothing but your broken and beat up HAR, burn him once for me and know that even though the odds are against you and you'll probably die, that's the way you like it, because you're a (insert your prefered curse)commando!

You are freaking awsome. LOL
I play this game as a commando and I don't know why,probably because of the commando forum. Though I have never met any of you, and though I will never meet any of you, you are the best people on SWG and some of the funnest people I have ever of had the pleasure to read about.
You guys make the Commando class the best class in the game regardless if we are broke or not.

I have never befre posted in the commando forums...I tend to stick to the BE forums...but I feel that this thread has hit a 'special' place in my heart.
I've been playing just over a year, and my first 'elite' prof was commando. One of my most unhappy moments was dropping the flame tree (which I kept as long as possible). I have a PVP rating pretty much the same as my friend and Mayor of our City (I'm Dep Mayor). He is a Jedi and gained PVP rating from the TK/Swords he used to be, and the BH killing he does now.
Im not a big PVPer, and rarely PVP, however even though I been TKM recently, I PVP a lot less than before when I only had Commando, which means that my PVP rating is almost solely related to my time as a Commando.
I suppose the point I am making is that I gained the same PVP rating as someone more capable of PVP than myself with only my Commando skills. I have recently come back in to the commando fold to help with FS grind, and have forgotton how much I love my Duct Tape Flamer in comparison to my VK...And I love my VK a lot

Arrghh.... I shouldn't have read this post while at work. It took every once of willpower I had (and I've migrated my stats to have A LOT of willpower...
