Thread: Combat Exp Tip/Trick (how to get the 40k in a matter of hours)

Not sure if this has been posted, but it definitely made the 40k combat exp grind a lot easier.

First off you need to buy a lot of grenades. I recommend frags because they are the least "advanced" and you could probably get them the cheapest, but I am just making an assumption (my guildmate had a bag of looted nades so I just used those). However I did notice, and it may have just been random, that the glop grenades seemed to be more accurate. I really didn't test this, but I seemed to hit more often with them.

Anyway, once you have your grenades, head out and find a mob that you can kite (snorbals, for example, if those are still slow). The key here is to throw the grenade(s) at it until you hit it at least once. It doesn't matter how much damage you do, but you HAVE to hit it in order for it to work. I strongly recommend keeping your weapon unequiped at this point as if you shoot it by accident you won't get your precious combat exp.

Once a grenade hits it and does some damage, the next step is to bleed it. Make sure you have a weapon in your toolbar so you can equip/unequip it easily. The method that works best for me is as follows; press HealthShot2, equip your weapon shortly after, wait until you hear the shot, and then unequip it. Then, press HealthShot1 (as the bleeds stack), and do the weapon equip/unequip just how you did it with HealthShot2.

From this point, just run in circle. It will take the MOB a couple of mins to die, depending on its HAM of course, but its well worth it. As long as you don't hit it with a shot, it will die, and you will get combat exp all around. Basically, say the mob was worth 1871 pistol exp, and then 187 combat exp, you would get two sys messages that say you recieced 1871 COMBAT exp, and then the additional 187 combat exp (as the combat exp you get is always 1/10 of the main exp you get).

This method worked very well for me, but it sometimes takes a while to get your weapon equipping, shooting, and running in timing. After a few MOBs though, you basically figure out what to do, and it becomes clockwork. On a side note, however, andI can not stress this enough; If you hit the MOB with even ONE punch or ONE blaster bolt, you will get weapon exp instead of combat exp, and you would be better off just killing it ASAP and starting on the next. Even I did that sometimes, and it sucks, but even if you mess up on 5 of them, killing just 1 is worth it. So anyway, while you're running around, kiting the MOB without your weapon out, do not get too close to it. If you get too close, you may punch it. If you shoot at it or punch it and you MISS, then you are in luck, you still get combat exp. This happened to me a few times, but since I missed, I got the combat exp (and was very thankful too).

I hope this little guide helps all you aspiring commandos... It sure helped me

Well as for right now I am part smuggler. I wonder how this method would work if I included feign death in the plan.

Thats a good idea, I didn't even think of that (I am a smuggler too). However, sometimes the MOBs require multiple bleeds (because they wear off) and if they travel far from you, you don't get the exp. However, the only real problem I see is punching it by accident before you're feign actually completes.

I thought the Devs fixed that. It was considered a DOT exploit. People were Jax farming using that method to get massive XP.

They did fix that exploit. This is different. And still an exploit.

I never considered kiting an exploit. If some creatures are slow, like Snorbals, then take advantage of that I say. I don't think those armored beasts should run fast anyway. And grenades, well, they have to award combat exp. Fighting slow animals and using an exp specific weapon is playing the game intelligently, not cheating. Either way though, if the devs decide to award weapon exp for bleeds I won't complain, however if they leave it the way it is, I will take it as intended, and use it. I am sure if they don't want bleeds to not award weapon exp, they will fix it, and it is not my place to argue with that

What do you mean not an exploit? This applies for all combat styles, heh hit bleed and then punch the mob ONCE with unarmed and run around till it bleeds to death and you get FULL unarmed xp... for hitting the mob ONCE, hows that not an exploit?

Killing a 9000 HAM mob in 1 hit... pff...

I don't think they're suggesting that kiting is an exploit, but in using some bizarre combat trick to get 11 times the combat xp you're supposed to get.

And you arent actually making xp for the bleeds, bleeds dont give xp. the point is you bleed the mob to near death and then take a hit or two at it.. the game simply registers XP award based on the% damage you make to a mob, so when you use the bleed tacticit registersit as if you did 100% damage to the mob with that weapon and awards you the fullxp.

It doesnt count in that 99% of the damage was done with bleed... and it doesnt scale down the XP in portion to actually %damage done with the weapon to the targets HAM bars...

If the xp was scaled down by % of actual active combat damage done to the mob and substracting the bleed damage, the xp would be far less... like comparing it to you taking ONE shot at a mob someone else has done 99% damage to...

In that conclusion it is a exploit and it should be fixed as soon as possible because its just not an intended part of the games xp reward mechanism.

I just send in my beetle to attack a giant baz nitch and repeat the process till its being wacked by 3 different bazes. Next I spray them with a flame AOE to get a dot going then heal my pet once. After that it's all imperial grenades for the combat exp boost. I also use them on lairs for 4k-5k combat exp at once.

Prolly have to recommend Glop grenades over imperials because of the LONG timer on them. Only thing I have right now is imperials so /shrug. (Still haven't seen any protons of thermals for sale on my server either)

I am not saying no. Personally I believe that the game SHOULDN'T award full amounts of a certian type of exp if you do a normal attack but use a bleed, however this is how it does work right now. I don't think anyone here can disagree with the statement that combat exp is a pain to get, and they want to get it over with. I don't condone exploiting, however I do condone this because personally I don't see it as an exploit. If the devs had not intended for bleed to work the way it does, they would have either a) fixed it, b) decided to fix it, or c) warn players not to exploit it. If they do fix it, good for them, and I support that decision because I do think it shouldn't work the way it does. However, right now this IS how the way it works, it's been a known issue for a while (if they regard it as an issue), and since people use it for other things, I thought I should share how to use it for Commando
