Thread: Requesting advice for a new commando

Hey all, I just came back after taking a year off, and I started learning the Commando profession. Currently I am a Master Rifleman, with Commando at 1,2,1,1. I'm looking at some advice on the following:


1.) I'm a CL59 after the CU, and I was wondering if someone could please suggest a Heavy Weapon or two that I could start off with to increase my HW experience with.


2.) Where would be a respectable (doesn't have to be best) place to work on the HW experience?


3.) Finally, which of the HW trees would be the best to raise first? I chose Beam Weapons, but if that wasn't a good choice I'm a big enough person to admit I made a mistake.


I know I'm not gonna learn all there is to know about a Commando over night, so any advice you old hands would be willing to share would be great.

I mastered Commando last night and would still be interested in this. Having Master Rifleman I think you'll find it a bit easier. I am MC/CM 4414/Novice Rifleman and have really missed higher damage specials which I will hopefully find in Rifleman. After becoming MCM I will most likely drop it to CM 4000 to master Rifleman unless I find myself resing people a fair bit.

well my template is in my Sig and i do amazing damage and heal like one good mofo....




use launcher pistol tuntil u get at least the first acid rifle box. after that u can use that all u want .. NO aggro because the AOE is broke only thing is u can get blind ( but ur target also gets blinded) though if u 25 meters away it wont bug ya.... plus i think its the rifle or the stream launcer it reaches up to 65 meters witch is nice

plus i did all my fighting on DAToonie in groups and boy the EXP is fast.... Just basically do what i told ya and u will be set... the lighting beam cannon is also good i dont cause aggro with that thing at all unless i am reallly close to the targets.

The +blind+ is bugged BAD, you can be blinded at any range (and not blinded at 1m) as well as getting blinded useing specials that don't actually fire the weapon! (like aim). At least the only thing it does is that dodgy anim otherwise I havn't noticed a real ill effect from it.

umm odd because whenever i was 25 meters away or more i never and i repeat never got blind on me... i guess it was luck who knows.

I'ld say incendiary or beam weapons. The lbc is the best non master commando weapon and you get certed for that at beam weapons 4. However, the flme thrower (the non plasma version) isn't all that bad (for a low cl weapon) and the incendiary line gives you heavy weapons speed which means you can kill things faster. However, considering how fast things die in a good grinding group, the speed doesn't really matter that much (just making sure you tap each critter before it dies ). It's my opinion, beam weapons is the best thing for you to grind out first.

the flamethower cause's major AGGRO in groups or even when ur around 4 targerts .

Only if you don't pay attention to your range and radius. Any aoe weapon can be just as effective (ignoring the sub par weapon stats) as a single target weapon. It just takes more effort then "run and gun."

Thanks a lot for the advice! I feel pretty good about going with the beam weapons column first then, so I can get to Beam IV for the LBC to work on the other blocks. I'll swing by Dant tonight, and I'll see if I can find any groups out there. I bought a Heavy Particle Beam Cannon yesterday to work on the points because I didn't know the AE was broken. I'll check into the Acid Rifle tonight when I log in as well.

considering u have to be 25 meters or closer to the target the flamethower causes the MOST aggro. HLBC and Acid launcher do not.. well the HLBC u have to be like 6 meters close to pull more than one.
