OK here is what we need. I am a "Demolitionist"?
Let me use my "proton bomb" or "Plasma mine". This is where I set a way point using my weapon.
Radial menu, click "set". A way point is then added to my data pad. Once the explosive is set, I then can use my /cover or /hide or /stealth etc. command. As a NPC OR overt player gets near my WP (i can see it like regular WPs) I use my data pad and click /detonate on that WP. As long as we are on the same planet
or we can just place minefields with a very small footprint but with no viewable graphic?
BAM! BAM! BOOM!
Some explosives have less damage but a fast detonation, some explosives have slower detonation but big damage. Some knock down, some paralyze, some root, etc.
This can have a 25% misfire for fairness.
Make it explosives 4 then at master you get a certain explosive.
Commandos, weaponsmiths, and rangers can /search explosive to find waypoints where explosives are or where they were in the last 24 hours. They then approach the WP and /disarm if it hasn't gone off. 50/50 chance.

I can't see this adding anything to the game except another way for people to grief people.

What if they had to be within a certain range of a base and are only active during vuln times?

how would this grief people anymore than load killing at a starport?
look they aren't doing anything cool for us. how am i a demolitionist with a glop grenade...come one folks

Well a demolitionist isn't a mine field technician. A demolitionist is described as a "a person or company whose job it is to demolish buildings". So if you really want to be a demolitionist the commando would need to be given an ability to create, set, and detonate explosives in relations to buildings. This could be something like planting a bomb on a turret, running like hell as the timer ticks down, and watching the turret go boom!
Historically speaking demolitionists were usually used for blowing up bridges and railroads. In SWG I would love it if we could setup explosives at faction bases.

Erm. "Any more"? No, it wouldn't be any more grief-able than load killing at the starport. That doesn't make it okay to allow people to set mines around the bazaar terminals and cantina entrances.
I do like the idea of letting commando plant explosives on faction bases (like in Return of the Jedi!), but it would be tricky to handle and still have turrets be useful rather than an unofficial sixth terminal to hack.

I think it'd add a new level to the Commando profession. Seems to me in Basic Combat Training and in Advanced Infantry training we learned how to deploy and use and set a fair range of mines. As well as disarming a few as well. A Commando would fit in nicely into this range of weaponry with SWG. I saw give it to them. they took away all our of power durring the CU. Give us something that's based on the Commando's abilities alone, not relying on a secondary ranged profession for damage output.

I never referred to NPC cities.
