As February comes to an end, the hopes of a CUrb Beta slides into another month. Somethings have greatly improved, yet this still lingers on.

TH said in another thread a message is coming next week that explains what's going on...Things are a lot farther along then most of us (even me) realized until very recently...We'll have to wait and see how much TH or Tyrant reveals in that post they make next week, but based on what I've heard and read, I'm actually thinking testing will go much quicker then I previously anticipated...I believe the phases Alpha to Beta to TC to Live will fly by much faster then everyone thinks...hopefully the post coming will elude to what's given me this insight...

That might not be good Garv. I have a big fear that there going to give us the most bug-infested patch ever. Also called the CU. And it's Alpha that hasn't started. Alpha then Beta then TC then live.

Even if it goes fast along all the phases, I hope they take there time to properly test everything that might pop up. Or we'll spend the next year doing much more /bug then what's usual.

Well...that would be the case if testing begins when Alpha begins...but what if that isn't the beginning of the massive testing? What if testing did start when they originally told us it would, but not in the way we thought it would...what if testing and refinement has been going on in preperation for the the Alpha Testing...this is of course all hypothetical...

Think about it...what if, when a crew finishes building a house, they lived in it for a month to find and repair any possible issues before letting the new owners move it...and what if during that month, they decided "you know what...this room here isn't what we hoped, let's change this to be bigger and better, and while we are at it, let's add on another room over here, throw in some more furnishings since it's taking so long, and hey...going back to the new owner's wishlist, let's give them a bit more before we move on to the next house"...By living in the house and catching all those bugs before the owners move in, they may leave less issues for the new owners to have to deal with when they move in...

Again...just a thought...but if things are already in motion and there are less critical issues present when Alphat/Beta testing starts, then maybe things will move faster and we'll see things go live sooner...but again...that's all hypothetical...

While, hypothetically, that would make for a well planned house... that time the designers spent living in and "testing" said house would still not prepare them adequetly for the College Fraternity or 5 screaming ADHD kids that would actually live in the house and find all kinds of ways to break things... hypothetically.

Well, what if it took 6 months of the contractors to keep pushing things off. You ask about stairs? "That will be addressed in the blueprints." What about windows? How many bathrooms? How many car garage? "That will be addressed in the blueprints." Then, 6 months later, when told you will be able to see the blueprints... they said no. Also, during this time you have seen absolutely no progress in your house, they overheard you say something was wrong with your car, so the foreman decides toinfest half his team to fixing your car (JTL).... and can't forget them going next door and adding a room to that house (Jedi)... while you are waiting on yours that hasn't been built for a year now. But hey, you finally get some blueprint news... only it's just a drawing of what the side of the garage will look like. But we are supposed to be thankful any work is being done in the first place.

What if the house were for the people who hollered "Give it to us now, it's ready. Give it to us now, it's ready. The people you have living in it are just freeloading a place to stay. They just want the house for themselves, and they don't want to pay for one, so they're making it all up". The people living in the house say "nooo....it's not ready. It's really, really not ready". The bean-counters say "Well, if the people want the house, let 'em have it so we can start making money on the rent."

So the house is opened up and first thing that happens is the people who were previously hollering "Give it to us now, it's ready" are now saying "you gave it to us too soon. It's not fixed".

Welcome to the story of SW:G beta. I don't imagine the people have changed much in the intervening time.

While that is indeed a great idea, the problem I see with this is that those who built the house already know the limitations, etc. of what they've built. Their natural tendency would be to work within the confines of that house, and not go poking and prodding the way a new owner will.

The new owner would know nothing of the house and how it's built, and would therefore be more apt to thoroughly test each aspect and find the limitations themselves, rather than have a preconceived notion of where those limitations are (since they were involved in drawing the blueprints).

And that is what the alpha phase is for. New tenants who only job it to poke and prod and generally try to break things in as many ways as they can possibly do it.

Aye, I definately agree. Guess I should have said what I really meant... I'd hate to see them cut the Alpha and Beta testing short because they feel that there's already been a great deal of testing done in-house. I have a lot of faith in the Alpha and Beta testers, and hope they do a great job. And furthermore... I hope their voices are heard.
