I would actually pick up Pistols 0004 for the melee / ranged defense, plus Improved Stopping Shot. Having both Concussion shot AND Stopping Shot gives you a much greater level of control, plus one can serve as a backup to the other, should the first shot miss.
I'm gonna make my unlocked character slot a Commando/Smuggler. Smuggler is not just a combat professions, you can do other stuff too, which I like.
As for specials, damageing ones in smuggler, I'm not very sold on Adv reckless shot. Should have good damage modifier but lowers your defense. It could work out well. Then you can put the remaining points into medic if you want.
However I'm considering putting the remaining into BH, but not sure in which branches. Would be good to get a Knockdown shot, or a real damage shot.
BH or Pistoleer are the choices if you want some additional attacks I guess.

since i have a MBH/MP/CM4000 also, i would maybe replace your pistol with carbineer instead...
