Thread: What would make commando effective for both pve and pvp...
Anarchicgorilla wrote:I have been playing a master commando for a bit now (had to try it) and must say it has lots of potental (however I wanted to combine it with BH to do 1 on 1 stuff)One thing I hate is the constant aggro when using my weapons that do specials ( ie acid, rocket, flame,)I was washing my mirror when I thought... wow it would be cool if a commando could adjust there spray like I can with this windex bottle. My idea would be make all weapons max out to 65 meters... then have 3 levels of adjust (which you can do at any time)1) 65 meter max... no area2) 50 meter max ... 6 area (or 30 degree)3) 35 meter max ... 12 area (or 45 degree)This is sort of like you can adjust for spray or distance on supersoakers and windex bottlesThis would allow me to wipe out in an area when need be... then allow me to key in if i had to (like pvp or to avoid aggro)Just a thought, that I would love to see as a commando.
Keep in mind they can't even get static AoE types per weapon working correctly. It could be interesting though. Hell, especially if the commando could do that to any weapon.
When I started after cu I went right for Mcarbine MCommando, it is a great combo. The unfortunate truth was that my carbine would out dps my flamethrower though, so I mainly stuck to that. With all the BH loot there is now though, and given the high damage cap for the FT, that may no be true, I'm not sure. Regardless though, commando + carbineer makes for powerful combos. Carbineers keep asking for an aoe knockdown, but with this temp you have one (FT+charge shot). You also get area cripple, which is really cool too. I found that I could aoe entire lairs solo like this.
For pvp though I don't know. With the 4000 CM, there's no doubt you'll be a force to be reckoned with, I'm just not sure if the FT could out dps the carbine. It very well could, especially with the elemental damage + the burns. Does anyone have any opinions on this?
P.S. I could also see aoe root from pistol stopping shot being really deadly too..
Which just struck a brain cell...Im going to start collecting various forms of "solutions" besides the ones ive listed in the newly reformatted to get a few ideas out there that could really help. It shall be Commando Verbatim II...
Anyways, as I was saying (yeah...its late, went off on a tangent there!), in order for our AoE to be balanced with a special that would supply damage...it would have to be short ranged. I say this for:
Imagine doing AoE, with an AoE special...solely inside our profession, at 64 meters in range, 100% AoE and with built in states? Do I hear overpowered? We'd be one hell of a wrecking crew. The only problem is that we need pro's and con's.
What did the devs do? Besides the obvious high SAC and low speed (which I believe is for the built-in states), they took away that ability to do front-loaded damage...because we had AoE at nearly all the ranges. Further, they made it limited AoE. As ive said in the past, this is the overpowered/underpowered spin cycle that we're in right now...if our AoE gets beefed up and we get our own specials...we will be the ultimate FOTM due to the ability to produce such an effect at any range with "combo" specials.
Its way too much "stuff" for a single system (weapons). If we were to get specials, we would need two things to retain AoE weapons: 1) Short ranged (ie PFT) AoE weapons and 2) Limited AoE. I honestly think this is fair because:
1) We're going to do more damage than we can atm in AoE anyways, but remain at around a fanshot-esque level in splash damage, while being able to dish out better damage. This would be great for short-ranged "in their faces" style fighting...reflecting our melee skills in concept.
2) We would actually get damage, and our single target weapons would actually be comparable to rifles using elite specials, but with the plus of elemental and built in states!
3) We'd actually be flexible in all templates from melee to ranged...because we would have different abilities built into our weapons (2 main: AoE and Single target...then sub-groups with various elemental, ranges, and built in states --- we have these right now, but few come into play when we deal out damage unfortunately) that would not only get used, but aid in our "flexible destruction".
Your idea, essentially is this...but built into all of our weapons rather than being static.

gives you recon armor which is great against the majority of pvp now days [lightsabers]
his question is about PvE and PvP both and smuggler commando is very ineffective at PvE
