Ryubushi,
Wow! I'm so sorry you have not became a Pilot yet. If passion ever came to play, I know you'd be in there like swimwear! My visionis similar to yours, and I shot Master Rifle badge. I even had a chance to pilot helos..ever think about that? Back then, Helo pilots needed more dexterity then vision to an extent. You'd still fly!
I was always more personal with combat. I (stupidly) wanted to experiance war first hand. The visions, sound, smell, and touch. I got my wish...but those things never leave. They become a part of you. Forever.
I can be walking down a trail, and smell a dead animal, and relate that to the pungent scent of human death....death has a smell. That brings back memories...memories of the crimes and horror mankind can do to mankind. I don't blame ya! I'm proud of my service to my country...Sometimes I'm ashamed of what I saw...maybe what I did as well. I wanted to get down and dirty and see what I was made of. I did.
Trust me Brother! Commando will be cool someday. Our itch will be scratched hopefully soon!

No helos for me; I'd want massive speed (though admittedly, just once I'd love to fly an Apache). Since I can't satisfy that need in an F-16 (or better, an F-22), I use things like roller coasters as a substitute (front seat, no screaming, eyes focused straight ahead on an imaginary target). As it is, I still have all sorts of fighter models and toys decorating the house, and my cubicle at work has pictures of fighters in flight on the walls. Everyone at work seems to thing I'm some kind of para-military psycho (everyone but Dave...he's just like me, I think). I'm too nice to tell them that if all hell broke loose, it'd be the people likeus that would be saving their rears.
Ground combat itself is very interesting to me, I just don't feel I'd be half as good at it (i.e, I'd be among the first casualties). I've mentioned doing paintball with my friends, to see if I would be able to handle it (not the same as real war, but it's about as close as you can get), but they all refuse to do paintball with me. I suppose I should take their reluctance as a compliment.
And I also suppose I should retract the comment about not volunteering for another service branch; god forbid it, but if World War 3 were to happen tomorrow, I'd be signing on with the army within the next few days (I would like to track down the ex and tell her goodbye and that I still care before I go).
Ah well; if nothing else, the virtual world offers me the chance to live out such things safely.
