Garvin, they are not even coding the combat revamp yet. I am certain that our current system sounded good before they got around to coding it.

Before you say it,I am not pesimistic, i am suspicious. Unless those infamous docs that you saw included formulas and pseudocode, they don't represent anything but a dream.

It doesn't really matter when they release these documents. They will not represent what we will be stuck with in the end.

TH's posts have often been infamous for not coming across "fully"...When TH said they weren't hard-coding the revamp, I strongly believe he meant onto a server (as in a test server)...The Programmers ARE coding the revamp as we speak and were doing so at the summit...I spoke with2 of the programmers directly involved on the project who said they were working on ways to MAKE some of the ideas happen (some of them have never been tried before in an MMO)...What was on paper, for the most part, isn't too complex...changing a formula or six won't take months on end...and the other main portion of it is tweaking the numbers on various weapons & specials...there is a lot of juggling things around as well...and many of the new items coming into the game have been in there since several patches ago (they often put things into the game with various patches that may or may not go live down the road with future patches)...

Every little bit seperately could be done quickly for the most part...the new content is no more labor intensive then a few new specials, animations and new effects...but put it all togetherand mix in a few other surprises that are meant to keep even the skeptics happy, and you start to see the bigger picture of why it's going to take time and why TH says they haven't started "hard-coding" it yet...

Rest assured that the Revamp isn't only on paper...it's a growing entity that just hasn't been let out of the programmers' personally cages yet into an environment where they can play and interact...

Your suspicion is making you, as with many others, fall into the same constant trap of reading more into TH's posts then are really there...Just like the other day when TH was quoted as saying there isn't any Leadership on the boards...do you really believe that's what he meant?

I'm not saying that folks don't have good reasons to be pessimistic or suspicious...If I didn't know what I know I'd be right there with you...the difference is, if someone I trusted in told me that they had faith, that would go a long way to inspire some, evena shread, of faith in myself regarding our future...

That's the understatement of the year! What TH says often makes me mad, and it isnever quiteas bad as I had thought after reading his posts.

Although I am often pessimistic about the developers, I can tell you this (I believe without violating the NDA): I have seen a lot of developer activity on the beta boards, and I think there are lots of developers (not all, but a vast majority) that rock and really have our fun-factor and the love for making a great game in their hearts. They want to make a good, challenging game, and they want to give us what we want.

If that were not the case, there wouldn't be a sandbox, and they would just implement whatever combat-balance plan they wanted to develop.

I can promise that those of us that are in the sandbox are going to take whatever the devs throw at us in the sandbox and chew it apart until we are REALLY happy with it.

Read the combat docs, post your thoughts... HOWEVER, remember that they have to get past us to implement the changes, and that we will be trying hard to make sure they don't suck.

Garvin, i do trust you and it does inspire a great deal of hope for the future. That is why i still am a master commando.

But there is large hole of broken promises and intentional/unintentional deceit and that hope you inspire barely fills it. I fear that this is all hype just to keep us happy because they pushed the revamp back again. I fear that they will keep pushing it back because they give us NO indictation of progress. We know nothing more about this revamp then we did when i joined the game and they started talking about it. I cannot sit back and just trust them. I have done that for too long.

First, TH? Vague? Ambiguous? Naaaaaaah. Everything he writes is a crystal clear ball of information...Straight and to the point. There is no beating around the bush with that guy. You understand completely what he is saying the minute he says it...No grey area with him, you know EXACTLY where you stand.

Second, if it isnt too complex, then WHY THE HELL HAVEN'T SOME OF THE FORMULAS ALREADY BEEN FIXED/TWEAKED???

(some of them have never been tried before in an MMO)...

OOOOO, I sense a great bug in the force!

Gonna be alot of fine tuning in the sandbox....but if they (and the testers) can pull those ideas off...SWG will become one heck of a game...

Anyways, my 2 cents:

Every great project needs a great plan, think of the game this way....the original systems were communisim...sounded great, wouldve made a great game etc etc...we all now see those ideas werent the best, and eventually made the game worse off. Now, we're in a transition to a capitalism style system...which in my opinion will be better, and overall, enhance gameplay.

Why I bring economics in...other than garvin speaking of how we will be able to "shop" around for skills, I honestly dont know. But I can bet, the original system didnt getas muchattention to detail, planning, and work that has and will go into this project. Usually, the 2nd time you do something...it works better (the 3rd time, eh so-so). Remember also, the first batch of cookiees are never perfect...

Your white stallion. Beggith please, fought by and by. Take this broad sword I carry, in your hands. Unsheath it. Massage it's power and strike it down.
