what if, and this is purely hypothetical... the HAR was actually a rifle, and not an acid thrower.
imagine, if you would, a large, hi velocity long range rifle shooting 80mm rounds, each tipped with a specially designed acid round primarily designed for armor piercing. (those with military experience, think shape charge)
the round would fire, arm in flight, strike the target, with the initial force generating slight armor penetration, but more importantly releasing the acid on impact. thanks to the velocity of the round, the acid would move forward into the impact area, cutting and burning its way through the armor, until all of the acidic material of the round has been neutralized. further rounds striking the same or similarly effected area would have a more severe impact.
putting this attack in SWG terms, the round would not be DOT (sigh), but would instead increase in severity with every strike.
the first hit does 200 damage, the second 500, the third 1000, etc.
such a weapon could be programed using entirely current code and graphics, would give commandos another worthwhile weapon, as well as something that could damage some of the high end content (provided its not acid resistant)
i came up with all this completely at random, and would love some feedback, especially from senior commandos, correspondants, and ::cough:: DEVs

I like the idea. Reminds me of maces in UO, they were kinda lacking compared to fencing, but the good thing about them is it took away armor class very fast. The har that way wouldn't specifically hurt the armor too much, but have the same effect so everyone wins!

be a great idea, but some where in the back of my head, some newbie whinner is crying something about griefing or such.
I definatly think the HAR should have been armor peircing for the mere fact that ITS ACID. oh well. hopefully the CURB will fix it to a usefull level.

I think that would be a great idea, so in say PvP, maybe it'll have lower DPS than one of our other weapons, but against Nightsisters say, it'll be an awesome weapon.
Not a bad idea.
Not a bad idea.

That's a neat idea! I'm definately a propoanat of increasing the HARs effectiveness in any way. The HAR has been the "baby brother" FT clone for too long.
I wonder, with your idea, where the damage would cap?

my first thought was that it wouldnt, but then i had this thought of units of commandos all firing HARs at one person. granted, this would still take a while if that person was an SBD, but other people might see fit to complain, or buy armor with very high ascid resist.
so i decided maybe the most well made HARs with carefully crafted components might cap at 10k.
if that seems like a lot, keep in mind that 80% of the high end content is 100% resistant to fire, acid, and blast, making the high end stuff inaccessable to commandos.
