I am working on making a Fencer//Commando. I chose this combo since fencers get the best non jedi defence in the game and Commandos have the best attack. I have two questions.
First i was curious if anyone agrees with me that fencer commando has promise.
My second question is about getting that massive 70k unarmed xp. I have seen several bosts say use healthshot pistoleer abilities. I was wondering if the fencer version of this tech would also work.

Hate to break it to ya, but Commando is FAR FROM the best attack profession in the game, sure, best per shot, but we get like one special off on average of about 8 to 10 seconds, and half of em miss, so...
As for Unarmed XP, best place I know of is the pygmy torton caves, a poi on Rori. They give an insanely unbalanced xp to health ratio, as some of em give you over 3k xp and I was able to kill them in less than a minute with teras kasi novice.

I don't think it would be that bad of a template. Fencer is one of the best tanking profession, so you could stack our flames, switch to a fencer weapon, and let those dots tick tick tick. I also like fencer because you can pick up some pretty nice gaffi sticks with dots on them from Fort Tusken (I just recently picked up one with a 123 strength mind poison. One thing to keep in mind is you won't have enough skill points left over to pick up novice medic.
As for getting the unarmed xp. Pickup a speed sliced VK and use beserk. Istuff outside of Coronet andsavage quenkers on dantooine, but theremay be quickerway.Try checking outtheBrawler or TK forums.

wow, i managed to get unarmed 3 and 4 since I started this post. All i can say is god bless a 1.7 VK and a never ending Sentinal nightspider nest on naboo.

ahh u take me back was my 1st comdinations of proffs iwas prolly a bit new to aprreciate it and dropped commando:+( (and wept for my flamer ever since)for rifle but ill tell ya this matey theres nothin sweeter than kd/dizzy roast
to see yr oppo flappin around like a fish wile u char grill him is a memory i clutch to my breast in times of strife.
good armor/food/weapons this can work might do it again someday meself.......

Fencer is a great profession in its own right (and to correct you, fencer has the best overall defenses in the game period, jedi or no, fencer dodge with CoB is far superior to jedi saber block).
Fencer with commando is best used with the expendable weapons, that way you get to use all yoru fencer goodness while throwing grenades or launching rockets. The flame thrower dots are nice, but I hate the 5 second weapon change delays.

I'm actually thinking about switching over to Fencer / Commando. Right now I'm a TKM / Commando. Anyone know how fencer compares to TKM?

A few months back I got tired of dedicating 169 skill points to master commandoonly to everend up using one weapon, and the sucky defenses that were associated with my beloved chosen profession.
As a result I dropped commando down to 0040, picked up master fencer and then dabbled to boost my defenses further, my end result was Master Fencer / Commando 0040 / Pistoleer 0040 / TKA 0004... the bulk of my defenses come from fencer, and this is what I attributed to not spending the majority of the fights that followed on my back flopping around like a gasping guppy.
Fencer has great defences, that cant be argued, but their range of usable weaponry is as limited as commando, you really do only have 2 choices, a Gaffi Stick or a Stun Baton (both of which you'll notice are sticks, not swords), and the damage output for both of these weapons - I'm talking standard version here, not Acklay - isnt too great. Add that to 80% kinetic resist armor as standard, and you run into problems.
If you can get your hands on an Acklay weapon (and these can be sickeningly pricey) then you'll have the foundations of a good PvP template, especially if you find a DoT weapon too... not being the richest person on my galaxy I never went this far however, and my tactics in a fight tend to revolve more around dizzy / posture change down, whipping out the flamer, layering on the dots and then swapping back to fencer weapons to tank while the dots tick away their health.
Bottom line, fencer is great for tanking and defences, not for damage output unless you're seriously rich and can afford the high end weapons.

The DoT weapons are half the reason I want to try out Commando / Fencer. Its very rare to find a VK with a DoT on it, but I have about 5 one handed weapons with some pretty nice health / mind DoTs.
