Thread: An outsider looking in
Hi everyone. I'm currently a TKA and will probably hit master by the end of this week, so I'm looking for something to do with the rest of my skill points (TKA master takes less than half of your character's total) I saw someone playing with a launcher pistol the other day and was immediately excited to give it a try. However, upon reading the boards here, I'm not sure that I'll ever be able to be a commando for one simple reason, which to me seems the worst part of the current structure of the commando profession: The fact that the devs suggest that you rely on specials from OTHER professions to do your damage. So, after I get millions ofXP for master marksman, I'll need an elite ranged skill from another profession to make it work??I'm not going to have enough points to get 2 more elite professions. In fact, I'll have exactly 18 points left over after master commando. Enough for novice medic and diagnostics 1.
My question is as follows: Can you be viable as a commando (assuming the ungodly amount of other problems are "fixed") without having an elite ranged class as a backup? If the answer is "no", they clearly need to change the way commando works. I see that commando has some of its own skills, but if these don't cut it, they need to be buffed, or the devs need to add more. plain as that. At any rate, master marksman and 40K combat experience is too steep a price to pay for a part time "support" profession that isn't viable standing on its own.
As far as I'm concerned, you guys are all rockstars for sticking with a profession as borked as this one. Heh, and I thought TKA was messed up ![]()
The commando TKA path with some Pistoleer to use the rest of my points was the path I wanted to take. I'm not sure how possible this is. Unless you take pistoleer you will not currently advance in pistol skills and are basically just a master marksman. Capable of taking out some stuff, but technically you are only level 11 with the pistol, the now primary weapon to get HW experience for the commando.
As a TKA you are probably viable as a fighting unit, you just won't havea primary ranged weapon.. Hopefully they change this and give us some pistol skills like they do other skills for the BH to have a primary weapon.
Thanks for the responses. It seems strange thatanyheavy weapon would use pistol skill for speed and accuracy bonuses. How can shooting a grenade out of a pistol be anything like firing a bullet? How could you use body shot with a grenade launcher? /boggle
Anyway. I would think they'd do something sensible like call all the weapons in the commando tree "Heavy" weapons, and give commandos bonuses to use those weapons (speed and accuracy as well as specials) as they move up the commando tree. Sounds simple...
I think heavy weapons should do extra battle fatigue damage too. That would make a real difference in PVP.
Yeah the did something like this already with the rocket launcher and cannon weapons, except each on have their own speed accuracy modifiers, they should just add the pistol luancher to the list of weapons and give us bonuses as we progress, add some skills we can use with the launcher that are comparable to the other classes and the whole needing to be a commando/pistoleer is solved.
However, we are master marksman so even if it is a grenade laucher its a pistol grenade launcher. so "realistically" you could look at it as we have a lot more control then someone who has just taken pistol specialist to get to pistoleer, we can handle carbines and rifles as well as now numerous other heavy weapons, its just a heavy weapon pistol. The fact that it is a pistol in game means that we already have a fair amount of pistol accuracy and speed. It just doesn't make sense that as we progress in our tree our "primary weapon" doesn't increase while all of our "secondary" weapons do.
