Ok, got me a flamethrower about 10 days ago. I do not have FT1, so no special attacks with this weapon yet for me, but this is what i have found so far:

1) Will not even attempt to fight awhite conor above solo with a nice probot pet, cant even put a dent in anything standing, kneeling, or prone at any range.

2) Hunting big mobs in a big group, like endor for example, a total waste of 4200cr tickets. Was scoreing anywahere between 18-130 hw exp. Nothing will frustrate you more than pounding on something for 3-5minutes seemingly, then getting a whopping 18 exp.

3) Almost all mobs are are only giving me ONE point ofcombat exp. A numa gives me 135 hw exp and ONE combat exp. If I kill a numa with a stack of grenades, i get one combat exp for the grenades damage and one combat exp for the kill. Where is my 10%???THERE IS A FEW EXCEPTIONS: If I kill a gnort, I get my 10% for some reason. Like 78 hw exp and 7 combat exp as it should be. Note: I can also kill a gnort with grenade and get 78 combat exp and an additional 7 more combat exp. So I dont know whats up with this, it like only some mobs in game are working advesaries for comando. Now if I am running along and someone is fighting a big mob and i take some shots, I do get the proper 10% combat exp sometimes, but in gerneral, the flamethrower and grenades are jacked up when it comes to giving combat exp. I would say I have tested this one all the low lvl mobs on naboo and only the gnorts work for combat exp.

4) If I attack a gnort per say, and my first shot does 70% damage to him, I usually miss the next few shots. Many times I have missed over 6 shots and get tired or embarassed and pull out another weapon to finish him off, usually a pistol. Even tho the majority of damage I did was with the flamethrower, that final shot with the pistol takes most of the exp, like out of 78 exp and doing 70-80% damge with the flamethrower, i will get 24 hw exp and 54 pistol exp...like it is reversed or something.

5) Some people say go prone with the flame thrower but I have seen no better results than kneeling. Admit that standing does seem to miss slightly more, but in general, just kneeling is about as good as it gets. the extra fast shooting you see in prone does not do more damage faster, it is purely graphical effect.

6) For a point blank weapon, the flamethrower does not have any advantage.I seem to do best damage from 25-46 clicks out. If i am point blank i miss ALOT more.

I have earned 100k heavy weapon exp with the FT so far...that is a F&%#*ing LOT of gnorts. I look forward to getting FT1 to see if the special attack does anything at all, but my biggest concern is the one point of combat exp i am getting. I do get proper combat exp with the launcher pistol, but as you know that is pistol exp and i try not to use unless the numa is dark blue.

Start a new character on a another server. Pull out your pistol and start shooting things. Its the same thing as starting with flamethrower.. Im at Flame IV and trust me it doesnt miss much at all, its damage and specials arnet nearly up to par though. I can go on hunting trips and get 1-2k xp per kill with my flamer now.

Strange that there is such similarity between our "elite"Commando profession and a "starting" profession.

Of course, the real difference is thatsomeone in the "starting" profession canquicklyearna few thousand XP,buy a goodScoutBlaster, then outdamage us forever.

Getting to FlameIV took how much effort? Master Marksman, Unarmed, the Combat XP for Novice Commando then, what?, about 1,000,000 Heavy Weapon XP?. Pretty bad when a noob with a ScoutBlaster and BodyShot2 (yes 2, not 3) can outdamage you every time.

*sigh*

My only guess is that our guns when "fixed" will do incredible amounts of damage through their specials. However, it isn't until level 4 that you can actually use the gun effectively. This will dissuade a large variety of say Master Pistoleers picking up Commando for our guns. I'm only guessing of course.

It seems more to me that this class was not played at all. I'm amazed this game was release as it is. Shrug.

I was under the impression that in one of the upcoming patches we will get heavy weapons exp from the launcher pistol with the ability to use pistol skills meaning better damage more exp faster and faster advancement up the trees. So you could get FT IV by using the launcher pistol, once its useable switch to the one of the true "heavy weapons"

Am I misinformed on this?

Once you get to flame II, its almost as good as a CDEF pistol at expert level. The devs are promising that we'll be impressed with the upgraded specials out on the test center right now. Only problem is that they haven't been tested by an actual person who cares yet.

I think there's a guy on the TC that's real close to being able to test the "upgrade" to the specials. I'm hoping when he does post his findings, I don't miss his post.

I just wish a heavy weapon was on Tarq. Only one is launcher pistol which is still only giving pistol xp. Why again didn't they make that change a hotfix?

I feel for you. This is the same experience that many of have had or are having. The next patch will help a bit, but it's a poor bandaid for something that needs entirely reworked. Hang in there!
