Thread: The Rocket Launcher Problem
I have to admit folks, the rocket launcher is a huge pain in the ass for us to make. I said before the patch I would be charging 30k for them, since I actually started making them, I've put them at 35k. The problem is I'm still thinking that's not enough for how long it takes to make them. Let me give you a break down.
- 150 Iron, 65 metal, 170 steel
- This isn't really a problem, resources are fairly easy to get
- 4 identical blaster power handlers
- Each handler takes 6-7 minutes to make, so that's roughly 26 minutes for the 4 handlers
- 8 identical projectile feed mechanisms
- Each takes about 2-3 minutes to make so that's about 19-20 minutes for all 8
- 2 identical weapon scopes
- Another 3-4 minutes each so only about 7 minutes here
- 5 identical Proton grenades
- This is not a simple as the others. It requires more than resources, it also requires components which have to be factory made so that you can factory make the grenades.
- Light Warhead-3 minutes
- Medium Warhead-7 minutes
- Warhead Fusing Device-3 mins
- Warhead Stabilizing Device-7 minutes
- Grenade itself-7 minutes
- Total for one grenade-27 mins
- Total for five grenades-2 hours 15 minutes
So all in total we're looking at roughly 3 hours and 15 minutes just to make one rocket launcher.
To give you a comparison, it would only take about26 mins for one flame thrower(4 ident power handlers, 1 barrel that can be made in 50 secs in a crafting tool). And you have the oh so popular scout blaster that can be done in a grand total of 2 minutes. About 4 minutes for a launcher pistol.
So do you see the problem? What this means is that most weaponsmiths are not going to be making the rocket launchers because it's not just worth the time when selling at 30-35k. I'm not even sure 50k would make up for the difference, but in all honesty I don't feel right about charging that much for them, it just seems to much for me to sell a weapon with only 30 shots for that much.
Also look at the cannons, They have comparable or higher dmg at faster speeds but with a sometimes lower AR or more commonly resisted dmg type. Yet I could make one of these every 30 mins (5 ident powerhandlers and a barrel). I sell these for 15k each. The devs want these guns to be expensive, in a recent post they listed that as the primary drawback to the left hand launched weapons. So it's a dilema, can I charge you what it's worth in terms of costs in resources in time while disregarding the fact that you'll have to come back soon unless you actually use them sparingly?
I'm afraid that if these cannons and rocket launchers are too easy to get, the devs will do one of two things, nerf them or make them much harder to make.
I would really like to hear your feedback on this. And please take into account that you can more easily take on missions that pay 5k to 10k each now, I do know this since my own commando can take out difficulty 23 faction missions fairly easily with only Flamethrower spec I. But I'd rather hear the feedback from you fulltime commandos before I make a final decision on prices.
I also wish you to ask the devs about possibly lowering the complexity of all commando grenade components that we weaponsmiths make. If they had complexity of 5 and 10, we could make the components much more quickly and be much more willing to make grenades for you. I'm sure you have all noted how hard it is to find any crafted grenades over the C12 and C22. All I can say is look at the times I listed for the Proton grenade. Do you see why most weaponsmiths do not wish to bother with grenades? Especially when only an idiot would pay 10k for a 5 use grenade. Just something to maybe suggest in a future correspondant update. I'd suggest it to the weaponsmith correspondant, but nobody has seen him in a month. I'm not even sure the devs know he is AWOL. If they could cut the crafting time on grenades down to the point were we could crank out grenades every 5 minutes or so, you would find many more weaponsmiths willing to craft them.
Anyway, let me hear you Commandos.
I can think of only 1 thing I'd use a rocket launcher on. An AT-ST.
I paid 24k for a flame Thorwer didn't even bat an eye at it. I'd buy a rocket launcher for 35-40k NP. I'd draw the line at around 45k.
Thanks for breaking down the time to make a rocket launcher. That is seriously fubar'd.
So to understand you, even making our cannons is 30 minutes compared to 2 mins for scout and 4 for launcher pistol?
Will throw this in for justification of charges going back to 200.
Grenades still need serious revamping as they also take so much time to make a crate of them. You wouldn't happen to have those times would you?
On another note I posted to my server forum your pricing guide, which I thought was excellent, and my server went nuclear from the meltdown of upset weaponsmiths.
I haven't seen one rocket launcher on Intrepid.
Having problems finding grenades too....
Ivoni it's not just for your weapons, it's pretty much all firearms that require multiple ident power handlers. You just multiply 6 times the number of handlers needed and that's how many minutes you need. The reason the scout and launcher are so fast is they don't require factory made parts so they can be done in minutes using a crafting tool which is 10 times faster than a factory roughly.
The thing on grenades is that most seem to have the exact same times as the Protons roughly. Cryoban and Glop are about 6 minutes faster per nade. Pretty sure that Thermal and Imperial detonators are same times as the Proton.
And I seriously doubt the cannons are going back up to 250 charges. The devs want you to have to buy them often, I could gather that form their post concerning the heavy weapons and LLC.
Wah wah wah.
Stop whining!
Its not a tumor! Its a ferret!
Anyhow, I paid 500,000 Credits for my rocket launcher and I couldn't be happier.
To solve the problem just jack the price, besides, paying 10K for 5 grenades is cheap these days.
I tip more to my doctors.
In all respects, I couldn't give a hoot what you were complaining about. I just want you all to stop whining about the Commando's being to powerful wah wah, or maybe the guns are too expensive sob sob.
Like my contact said, he only makes those weapons for about 5% of the server, and that 5% keeps him in business. They do hella damage, they get the job done, and i'd feel just plain wrong if I paid 3500 bucks for a rocket launcher.
Sides, like Chris Rock said, when a bullet costs $5000 there will be no innocent by-standers. And the guy who got shot? You know he must have done something bad to get $45,000 worth of bullets in his @$$.
Thats my personal revenge against those imperial punks with the at-st's anyhow.
