Thread: To wookiee or not to wookiee?
Hi, I am fairly new to galaxies. I had a charachter that I had made, but I discovered I had gone so deep down the Jack-of-too-many trades syndrome that I might as well restart. So me and my buds, taking our lessons in hand, all decided to restart. Anyhow, now we are making new guys, so my question is, what is the up and down of being a wookiee as a commando?
In addition, as a commando, is it good to also be a carbineer, rifleman, etc? In other words, what classes are good to combine with commando?
And of course, do commando's suck, and be brutally honest about all of these questions, if you please.
Here is my humble opinion on the matter...
- Wookiees are awesome, not because of their excellent HAM or their amazing strength, but because they are quite simply wookiees.
-The biggest downside to me is the fact that they are unable to wear armor... but then again, not of my alts have armor either.
My final analysis, go wookiee, even if just to honor Chewbacca.
If I could do it over I would go Zabrack. Their racial ablitiys cant be beat. And with mind being the decideing factor in many fights their willpower is nice. I would choose Human second, good all around stats.
The wookies are in pain right now with no armor.
As far as going commando. Hard to tell. We are in a transition right now. and If I could do it over I would go BH. They have far more versitility at the moment. They get pistol and carbine bonuses AND get to use a heavy weapon. 2 of the commando trees are pretty much pointless (IMHO). The disposible weapons leave a lot to be desired, and are very rarely used, if ever. A lot of people sing the praises of the disposiable weapons but I don't know how they afford them.
I'd get to master marksmen pick up CH for a tank (will help a novice commando and BH both). Then decide what you want to do. If you choose commando you won't be able to get any other profession because you will need all your points in CH, without a tank you'll be toast holding a flamethrower. The BH tree has the fearfull investigation tree so it is not without its drawbacks
GL with your choice.
I have an Idea for a Wookie Template that would allow you solo many things... The only thing that may make you not conider wookie is if you have your heart set on being an Imperial, if thats the case you may want to avoid wookies alltogether (faction perks cost an arm and a leg).
Commando 4/4/4/4 (Master)
Creature Handler (1/3/0/0)
Novice Medic
This will allow you a few things:
a.) Pride of being a Master Commando
b.) Ability to use the ever important Srim B's
c.) you can Use a Pet, specifically the Graul (non mauler)
From what i have been reading with the bonus wookies get naturally to taming allows them to use things as if they have attained a higher training level. Grauls require Tame2/Train2 but with the natural bonus you should technically be able to use them with Tame1/Train2.
I am faily confident that this will work, but I would do a little bit more investigation with the CH part. I got most of the wookies bonus info from there, but beign a human i never considered it.
Galen makes the best point. Beyond armor and anything else, it depends what faction you wish to play.
You'll suffer horrendous costs to purchase faction perks as a Wookiee Imperial. If you and your friends wish to go Rebel, you'll be fine.
The inability to wear armor is a drawback in PvP...armor can grant you resistances ion the 70% range at times, which is huge.
Wookies can use personal shield generators, but they burn out in a very short period of time...making them kind of a pain.
I currently play a bothan mastercommando and I like that because of the very high action and stamina (which means the high action costs of the LP don't really effect me as much)...but that said, if I were to start from scratch I'd probably go zabrak as well, for the reasons stated above. Outside of statistic modifications, non-wookie racial abilities are kind of overrated for every race though. It's a minimal advantage over other players who don't share it.
Armor is huge...it basically doubles your effective stats.A wookie against a T-21 (heavy AP) will get owned pretty fast unless he has a good shield generator on.
That said, if you're going to be a CH, then it's totally worth it, because the +10 is huge. I've not seen the effectiveness of Wookie Roar since the patch, but the wookie taming bonus is like having a free skill box.
You basically have to have a combat calss in addition to Commando at the moment. You'll need it either to bolster your combat abilities (CH, Pistoleer and TKA being the most common) or to add to your defenses (Pistoleer and TKA...and in one case at least, fencer). Commando is a powerful class, but with this past week's changes, the supplemental skills help.
Moreover, since the devs don't seem to play commandos in their own game...no one knows what they might do to us next, so it's a good idea to have something to fall back on if they hit us too hard. I think that is true of every profession, to be honest, just especially true of this one.
