It seems to me that every profession forum is just full of complaints about how messed up their profession is. Speaking as a pistoleer/commando I think it is kind of funny. I think that there shouldn't be a "perfect profession"

Commando's are upset with their lack of weapons. You get the flame thrower, acid rifle, and a whole series of disposable weapons. As a pistoleer, we get a dx2. Most pistoleers don't even use the dx2, they stick with a fwg5 because the ham cost is so much lower, and it is more accurate.

I like that you have to mix the professions to find what you like. I like that I have to be a commando to use the launcher pistol. And I like that I get to use all my pistoleer specials with it.

Anyways, I am just bored.... sorry

I see where you are going in your title...and it depends on what you mean...Do you mean, are there professions out there that people like because of how they are now? or do you mean, are there professions out there that people like because of what they represent and where they could be some day?

Are there any professions out there that people like...the way they are now?

Of course there are...some people look at various professions and see nothing wrong with them...but if you look at the majority rather then the minority, most folks are unsatisfied...If I had to pick one profession where more people were happy with it's current state then unhappy, I'd choose Rifleman (at least that's what I've heard from fellow Rifleman)...they are in their Golden Age and many of them are afraid a NERF looms...Personally I hope they don't get NERF'd...I'd rather see other combat professions brought up to their level, rather then them brought down to ours.

Are there any professions out there people like...because of what they represent and where they could be some day?

Any Master Commando here should answer yes to that question...why would anyone be a Commando if they didn't like what our profession represent and it's potential...The folks that leave us do so because many of them feel our profession will never reach it's potential or will delayed getting there longer then they would prefer.

Just because people desire tons of fixes and get about passionate about those requests doesn't mean they don't enjoy the profession...on the contrary, they wouldn't care about fixes and changes if there wasn't something they enjoyed...

I'll ask you this...in your post, you said something negative about Pistoleers lacking varity in their weapons....does that mean you don't like the Pistoleer profession? I doubt it...same here...Would you like to see the Pistoleer profession improved? I'm guessing that you probably would...

Just because Commandos have a varity of weapons to choose from doesn't mean those weapons are good...If I gave Pistoleers 30 new pistols to use, but all of them where either bugged, were clones of the dx2 but much less powerful, or only fired 20 shots and were useless after that, do you think Pistoleers would be happy with those 30 new pistols, or do you think they'd want better weapons? If they complain, would that mean they dislike their profession?

Aye... we love our profesion... I just wish they would stop nerfing us and not giving us anything back... I've been a master Commando for four months now and I do not plan to drop it. But SOE is doing its best for me to drop it. As a TKM/Master Commando I find myself doing a flame single then moving in with my VK to get some good DPS, in PvP it is KD then Burn... a few publishes back I actually relied more on my flamer.

YES Garvin. one of the better posts i've read actualy. But the line between whiner and wanting to improve ones proffession is often stepped over and thus it seems ppl dont lik etheir proffesion. Seems ppl only think they get attention if they whine and scream all they can. Sometimes thats true as well sadly

Ok...now I'm going to sound like an old fart...but let me tell you a little story...

I spend a lot of time working in my home office on my computer...While I do this, my dog is locked out in the living room (she tends to cause trouble in my office)...She whines...she cries...she howls...until I eventually can't take it anymore and always let her in...And once in, she of course causes trouble.

By letting her in I know it sets her up to think "If I whine, cry and howl everytime I want something, I'll eventually get it", but I still give in...It sets a bad presedence, but it tends to be better then listening to her make the annoying noise...

SWG has made it a habit of bowing to those who whine, cry and howl the loudest...they deny this fact, but more and more we see it...Shear volumes of complaints changes their minds...Look at the recent reversals of decisions the Devs have made...They changed their mind on the DE revamp...They changed their mind on the Crafting revamp...

Personally, I don't think there are enough Commandos left to make that big of a stink to really get that kind of change made, so we have to rely on going through the proper channels as the Devs would prefer (yuck!).

The thing I find most funny about these forums...have you ever noticed that when onegroup feels they have a valid complaint, another group feels they are whining, crying or ranting? But if you look at just about all of the forums, break down their complaints to the most basic level, they all basically share the same principles...To us is valid...to them it's whining...and vice versa....that's how it seems the game goes...

Again /agree Garvin
I hate whining... why because when I whine SOEs idea of balancing things is nerfing them to oblivion. I don't want things nerfed (maybe CM a bit), I want to see my profession balanced for its high cost. I think Pistoleers getting their dual wielding is cool, and I think they should fix their specials. Carbineers not killing themselves so much and being more effective is also cool. And Riflemen ruling from long distances makes sense... what I really want is for commando to be worthwhile again!

I agree 100% with the idea of NERF'ing...That's why I think it's ridiculous when I see folks going around screaming that something needs to be NERF'd...even with them NERF'd we are still were we were before...Personally I think it would feel much better to be brought up to their level rather then them brought down to ours...

Yelling NERF is like saying "I'm in pain, so make them feelsome pain too" rather then healing your ownwounds...

I agree in principle with that line of thinking 90% of the time Garvin, but there's a flip side to that too.

In many, if not most cases... it's far more sensible from the devs point of view to nerf players rather than empower them. But, it's got to be judged I think on a case by case basis. For example...

Profession Xspecials not working as intended or as expected.... solution = FIX! It's simply not fun for a player to play a profession that's ineffective. There's no getting around the fact that it's illogical to base game balance on things that are flawed from the start. (It's like saying that car #20 in the race has a flat tire, so let's pull all the cars over and flatten one tire on each)

Doctor buffs creating players that are not challenged by the content....solution = NERF! From a development standpoint, it's far easier to lower buff values than it is to increase relative strength of mobs and npcs across the board. (This is like saying that car #20 in the race is running with jet fuel so let's put jet fuel in all the cars then re-design the track)

These are simplified examples (and probably silly)I know, but my point is that there is no singleblanket philosophy (nerfvs empower in this case) that can cover every specific game mechanic, and that there's more angles to a given problem and it's solutions than is often taken into account.

I guess I'd just urge people who think about these things to take an open minded approach and view it from all sides rather than make it fit into any specific philosophy.

Cheers!
