Thread: Commando Questions

I am oh so close to becoming a Novice Commando. I need 2.5k in Carbine and about 35k in Combat XP. The 35k in Combat will be relatively easy just doing Unarmed. I figure I could get that in about 10 hours of game play with a good Tusken group. Below are my questions if anyone can help:

1. What grenades can be used to get only Combat XP from and where can these grenades be found?

2. How do we start to get our hands on the Heavy Combat weapons, Acid Rifle, Flamethrower? Are the schematics given to us so we can work with a weaponsmith to have built?

3. Are the stats still very weak on the Flamethrower and Acid rifle or are they decent improvements over the stuff you get for Marksman?

4. As a secondary skill, I am debating on Teras Kasi Artist and Smuggler. Anyone have any suggestions on which way to go?

I just have some quick questions regarding the commando profession.

1) Are they equiped for dealing out damage at any range against NPC's and other players?

2) Could some one explain to me the purpose of the flamethrower, lightning gun thingy, acid rifle, and rocket launcher. B/C I am looking to see their average range and damage.

Thanks

1. Not truly, not yet. The next patch in 2 weeks should fix this.

2. Acid Rifle + Flamethrower do their damage through the use of their specials. One is single, other AOE. Max range on specials is 18m.
Launcher Pistol is our bread and butter for xp. Must Train Pistoleer if you wish to do damage with this.
The rest are consumable charged items.

The only thing we can do good damage against right now is an NPC with a rifle, due to the 3x damage to rifle wielders from heavy weapons. The default attack from the flamethrower will do around 300-1000 (usually 100-300+), and flame single will do around 1800-3600 with a 600-1200 dot (usually 600-1200 with 200-400 dot). That sounds like alot, but it's only useful against an NPC with a rifle. Dont see many of those around, and your not likely to meet a rifleman in PVP at 18m. Past that we are pretty useless until the patch. Hopefully withthe patchnovice commandos wont have to use the LP anymore once they get Flame 1 or Acid 1.

You can go after rare loot drops. It can be fun and dangerous, but I know lots of people ( mostly my close friends and guildmates ) like it when Im with them on difficult hunts becuase I can take down big creatures with ease. Even if they are trying to get experience I will just sit back and use a pistol or carbine ( something that Im no expert with ) and let them attack.. I only break out the FT when things are getting hairy and someone might die.

Or if you have any scout skills you can go harvest creatures for hides/meat. Doctors are always looking for good OQ and PE meats to use in thier buffs and meds. As a commando we do well against PvE and can kill lots of stuff quick. It usually adds up and some docs will pay 25 credits per unit for the good stuff.

Have fun and happy huntin-

A sure-fire way to get Le Ub4r missions solo is thus:

BecomeImperial. Get an ATST. Group ur ATST, then browse missions. Once you have the 25K missions you lust after, store the worthless metal chicken and go burn some furry woodland critters. Rinse/Repeat as required.

Re: Surveying - Yes, you must have Nov artisan in order to survey.

Some helpful tips on making the most out of your commando: ARMOR! Get the good stuff. Docs - make friends with as many docs as you can and stay buffed 24/7. Or, do what I did, buy a second copy of SWG, install it on your second comp and make a master doc to follow you around.

Master Commando + Good Armor + Buffs = PvE God.

Enjoy.

I have been reading in the forums how we commandos make our money. This has lead me to a number of questions...

1. Some commandos are getting 25k missions. The most I can get is around 8k. with my FT equipped and my pet grouped. One particular mission mentioned was pubnam (?). I could not get any of these missions, please could someone provide me with some specific advice.

2. Another commando suggested using a surveying tool to position a harvester. However, when I tried to use a surveying tool, it says "you don't have enough skill to use this tool". Is there anyway around this, or do i need Novice Artisan.

3. Please post any other decent ways to make serious cash. I get bored always doing the same missions (Pikets etc).
