Thread: Weapon Delay Testing Results

Last night I did some tests of my own on the Live server and got fairly mixed results...I've tested frequently on TC, but this was the first chance I've had to try things on since it hit live.

I mainly switched back and forth between VKs to my Flame Thrower (cross profession switching) as well as my Launcher Pistol to my Flame Thrower (same profession switching)...

First part of thetests were just to see if there was a difference at all between Cross Profession and Same Profession switching...No difference noticed at all...the same delays are present both ways...

Test 1) Before Combat

5 second delay if previous weapon was not equiped more then 5 seconds. No delay if previous weapon has been equiped longer then 5 seconds.

Test 2) During Combat -- VKs to FT -- Against NPC

No matter how long VKs were equiped during combat, delay when switching. Delay time is argueable. For me the delay time seemed to be a fast 5 seconds or a slow 3 seconds (depending on how you count) on average.

After every switch, when the FT was equiped there was a 3 to 5 second delay before first shot fired, but no delay after first shot (as hasbeen reported with other weapons...some notice a "stutter" between first and second non-special shot after weapon switch)...When the FT began firing (non-special), it fired at it's typical speed.

If I hit a /flamesingle special at the same time I switched to the FT, there would still be a 3 to 5 second delay on equiping the weapon, then around a 3 second delay before first the Special initiated...6 to 8 seconds from equip request to firing the Special seemed the average length of time overall.

Test 3) During Combat -- FT to VKs -- Against NPC

Similar to Test 2, it didn't matter how long I had the FT equiped, there was a 3 to 5 second delay when switching weapons.

After the switch though, when the VKs were finally equiped, it appeared to hit once, pause 3 seconds, then begin to hit at normal pace...this could be lag or anything, but seemed odd.

The thought did occur to me that this may have something to do with the speed of the weapon and the speed modifiers of the profession. Commando weapons are slow and we don't get much in the way of speed modifiers, where as TKA is much faster. The speed of the weapon/profession could impact the way the delay effects certain professions.

Test 4) During Combat -- FT to LP (and back)

Switch delay was no different then if I was switching to a non-commando weapon. Didn't notice any delay after first shot of LP, but again, this might be due to the LP not being as fast as other weapons/professions in game.

Test 5) During Combat -- AgainstLairs (VKs to FT and back)

There was a noticably longer weapon delay when attacking lairs then when attacking NPCs. The delay appeared to be a slower 5 count then when against an NPC.

Test 6) During Combat -- PvP

Haven't tested this yet to see if there is any difference in the Delay when fighting PvE or PvP.

I will be conducting more tests this weekend on both Test and Live and using different weapons. If anyone else has run some tests, please include them in this thread...thanks...

On a side note, I have posted this in the correspondent forum with an attached request for the Devs/Programmers to reduce our After Special Combat Queue Delay period BEFORE the Combat Balance goes in...With the Weapon switch in place encouraging us to keep the FT equip'd longer, the 6 to 10 second Delay after our flame specials is overkill until we have other Weapons/Specials we can strategically use instead of depending on our FTs....Can't make any promises that they will do this, but I don't think it hurts to ask...I even suggested that it be UNTIL the CB, and be re-evaluated when and if we have VALID other options stemming from the CB changes...

I have found that if I have spammed specials and decide I want to change a weapon I hit Peace and then HotKey to next weapon there is nearly no delay.

I was online when you first posted..but blast lol for some reason couldn't post (oh well).

Anyways..thats cool that /peace gives no delay...but I have noticed, and its only with my special hvy weapons..a slight delay outside of combat..like 3 seconds maybe....its occured more than once to be lag...

Also now we truly suck in PvP cuz of this...we did -badly- before...now we truly suck. I used to use 3-5 weapons in PvP....E11 for Full Auto Single 1 (Dizzy/Blind/Stun), VK's (Stun/Blind/KD), FWG5 (nolag/Pistol skills), LP (a full -1.1 faster than my FWG5/More damage/Lag *wink*), Flamethrower (DoT/Duh).

Now? heh...forget it. Ill be incapped before I get through switching between all those guns.

Garvin maybe this will shed some light on the issue: I am working on Rifles right now, and had noticed that the delay for switching between various rifles seems to be directly related to if I'm 'at rest' or waiting out the delay on a special. i.e. If I have specials que'd the weapon won't change until they have all fired off, but if I have them que'd and clear the queue the weapon switch is near instant (I suspect the delay still there is based off the speed of the default fire rate for that weapon).

Yea, this delay totally gimped my master commando and master bounty hunter. I think its time for me to leave this game. I really hate to but all my professions are worthless now.
