Thread: Is it worthwhile to cap ranged and melee defense?

I'm not really sure what the ranged and melee defense skill mods do.

Some tell me they are like negative accuracy.

Some tell me they are flat chance for a thing to miss you. IE every 2 points equates to a 1 percent chance to be missed.

Either way, is it worthwhile for a commando (let alone, any combatant) to cap these two skill mods?

With a bit of TKA and fencer, commandos can reach the cap. I am wondering if I should spend my skill points in this way.

Thanks much

Ranged and Melee defence do indeed affect your chance of being hit. I believe it does work as a negative accuracy, which is why defence stackers were so uber. Fencer/TK/Pistoleers with 180 Melee Def and 140 Dodge...

Yes, capping them is useful, as it makes you live longer. Some things, such as Krayts and SBDs "never" miss, regardless.

Sorry to jump in on this, but this is completely untrue. I have a Master Swordsman/Master Commando. I solo'd a Canyon Krayt wearing only my 70% Ubese (went through 2 brand new Jackets)and Buffs. I even took Screenshots of the combat tab. The Dragon missed me actually quite often and during the 40 min fight, sometimes it would miss 20 times in a row. Not sure, but I think this has something to do with me Keeping it intimidated.

Super Battle Droids are another story, as they cannot be intimidated, but I do also have screens of me "Dodgeing" blows or "counterattacking", thus not getting hit.

Intimidation causes the target to miss you more often. So yes, it was a large factor.

Counterattack and Dodge are just that, you evading or countering an otherwise successful hit. Go up against an SBD and see how many times you see "A Super Battle Droid fires at you but misses!" in the combat spam.
