This is just a repost of a response i gave to a nerf he commandos thread in general discussion. I thought i should repost it here. Please add anything i didn't think of.

1. Holo said commandos and their weapons are right where they should be now, so a nerf is unlikely regardless of what the general uninformed population thinks. (contrary to popular belief they don't nerf based on what's screamed in the forums. They look and see if something is doing way more damage/grief/ than it was ever intended to do or if it's the cause of an exploit, if the answer to any of these is yes then it gets nerfed.) True they've nerfed a lot of the stuff that's been complaigned about in the forums, but some of it has remained the same too. A nerf for commandos is unlikely (btw i don't consider removing the counting a flamethrower as a melee weapon a nerf, that is a bug and should be fixed.)

2. The hard times commandos had in the past is irrelevent to wether we should get a nerf or not, as is the number of people who pick up the profession. (good luck to them because when most of them get to commando they are going to be ticked because they can't waste anything in sight with no prolem like everyone was screaming about on the forums.)

The following are things most people are chosing to ignore about the commandos and just looking at a couple outrageous screenshots that show damage that resulted from the melee bug. This is a short list of some of the things commandos have going against them that most people don't think about at all. (Don't get me wrong i'm not wanting these things to be fixed i think they create a good balance and are going totick off a lot of the"class of the moment" people who were previously BH/pistoleer and are now grinding their way to commando in hope of being "uber" only to find when they get there that they were probably much better where they were)

1. We miss a lot, and i mean A LOT! even with aiming (which takes time) there's still over a 50% chance until we hit the 4th level of skill in any given tree that we're going to miss. "Oh yeah well if i could manage to hit you you'd be hurting!" This is something i've said to my friend several times after winding up on my back during a pvp duel.

2. We have now become the target of choice in PVP. If you whip out a flamethrower in PVP you are quickly going to become armored swiss cheese as every opponet you are facing brings their weapons to bear on you before you can do any real damage. This results in us using up armor (and spice/buffs) at an alarming rate. I don't pvp all the time, but my last armor helmet for example lasted me 2 days of casual play as i became a mon-cal bullseye.

3. If you use flamesingle1 or flamesingle2 or cone1 or cone2, true you might do more damage than you are used to seeing in pvp, but are only going to one shot someone who is using a rifle or has a really low ham. If you can manage to hit them because apart from the problem of missing alot (#1) very few people in pvp are dumb enough to allow a commando who is surviving the hail of gunfire to get close enough to use their specials on them.

4.Commando's are just about useless in PVP fights anywhere near a body of water. If by some miracle you manage to get close enough to someone to flamesingle1 or 2 and manage to actually hit them with it, all they have to do is run into the nearest lake to stop the DOT. True you won't always have a body of water nearby, but it is something that most of the johnny come lately's haven't though about.

5. If by some miracle you manage to get someone in close enough to special, and if you manage to hit them, you are now a useless moving target for the next 10-15 seconds. Your cue is locked up or this time delay and you can't really do anything but pray for poor marksmanship during this time. This is why i rarely use specials in pvp, the people who do are either not very good tacticians, or are taking a huge risk and hoping to reap a great reward, or don't care if they get killed and just want to burn something.

6. Our really damaging weapons (the rocket launcher/beam) are really really expensive. I don't care if you were one of the people who used the mission bug to make 2 million credits, if you start using rocket launchers or beamsor grenades along with your increased armor cost is going to eat through your funds like crazy. True the flamethrower is the weapon of choice but as soon as people figure out ways around it (water), or they fix it so we don't have the melee bug anymore, it's effectivness goes way down. It's not the perfect weapon there are things which it's far better to use a HAR or even a launcher pistol against.

7. I'm waiting to start hearing the following phrase uttered by commandos a lot in pvp (if disarming shot is working correctly which i have no idea if it is or not) "You jerk you just destroyed my 15k flamethrower with that special" There's going to be a general well maybe i will lose to you but you're gonna pay feeling, and this is one of the ways that it's going to be expressed i bet. (which is fine it's one of the risks i take in whipping out my over hyped weapon and i realize this.)

thanks.

No worries Disarming shot has never worked. The only thing it used to do was kd but that was taken away. It was also good against lairs and did an alarming amount of damage like 800 with a decent scatter pistol. That has also gone away. It is now yet another random ham low damage ability which has no reason to be on the skill page. So dont worry about it cause even if it did hurt your weapon you could just go 1 shot any mission in the game and get a new one to 1 shot everyone in the galaxy with. And anyway most of the screenys you talk about are corpse shots to begin with and im sick of hearing i got hit for 10k damage by a commando.Cause i have never been hit for more than 2k in pvp. Still too much IMHO

PS- Im not crying nerf buddie i think u guys need high damage but 1 shot pvp was taken out for a reason. U needtweaked not nerfed. maybe some scaledowns on specials so that a master (insert proffesion here) can actually stand a chance.

And im just waiting til everyone is a commando then you all turn your back on the proffesion cause of the i wann be uber guys lol.

Not a flame. Not a troll. Not BS. Just my opinion. If you like it kewl, if not oh well.

IF ALL ELSE FAILS HAVE FUN

Oh i agree it shouldn't be a one shot pvp situation, but if you have an extremly low ham that's your fault.Someone with an average ham i have never even come close to one shoting them, (not including the melee/rifle bug which really needs to get fixed)unless you're including the DOT from fire in there, and i don't consider that a one shot, otherwise you have to throw things like poison, disease and really good bleeds in with it too.

Thanks for the disarming shot update i wasn't sure about that one since i never used it here or in beta. WhatI hope foris that the "uber" people waste a bunch of time and hit commando then run into all the problems i stated before and give up and go back to their old profession. (probably unrealistic, but one can dream can't they.)

I have hit a player for 3818 thats a one shot unless you have some SERIOUS buffs and the damage is very spread out through hams.

I dont think there is anything wrong with that, for the reason that faction pets can do the same thing. I have been hit for over 800 by troopers. AT/ST reguarly hit me for over 1k and occasionally 1-shot me. Last ditch assault has hit me for over 1k as well as the LLC.

I think we are just seeing an evolution in how PVP works. This is becoming less zerg and kite and more strategy.

It is true that I can and do incap players in one-shot. However, I can be taken out in one shot myself by some. If I miss that first shot (i do all to much and Im a master) you have around 10 seconds to blow me away. BH can eye shot me a LOT in that 10sec. Smugglers can low blow and last ditch. Some pets can knock me down. There is dizzy out there still. There are some mean pikeman that bring the pain. Combat medics etc etc etc etc..

It comes down to I can rule 5 unorganized moderatly skilled players. I can take a lot more if I have cover like a building to go into. But 1 Skilled or 2 coordinated players have a very good shot at getting me before I get them.

The only way a flamer is useful/overpowered in pvp with with TeF's .. which is a game bug.. not a commando one.

Aside from that.. don't get within 16m on him and yer fine. Do a fire dot on anyone with a flamer out.. you will one shot kill them.

BH's get torso shot.. without the 10-15 sec delay with the same fire damage/wound dot.. which you need to jump into the water to 'fix'. You jump in the water.. they pull out a LLC and do x2-x3 damage on you.

Commandos have serious problems with these kinda classes.

Pistolshave a harder time.. rifles aswell until the flamers counting as melee is fixed.

Carbineers.. well they're hopeless vs any class .. so little irrellivant here.

My thoughts;

Not yours.

I think we should definetly have one shot kills, ive done them before with flamesingle1, if we use the combo we have to wait 15 seconds, its pretty fair, one shot kill:wait 15 seconds.

I've hit a person with a rifle for 4800 dmg

I've been hit with a flame thrower for 932 dmg, however my armor absorb 678 of it thus not allowing much to get through, only one tick of the fire dot was able to occur before I found water.

Moral of this story - wear armor.
