Thread: Commando/Creature Handler Build Question
I've been struggling for sometime over a character creation design, so I figured I'd ask those who might know.
I'm planning to be a Creature Handler/ Commando/ Medic (very little medic, probably just novice)
I'm curious, seeing as I cannot master both CH and Commando, which in the end would do me more good? and then, which trees should I take?
I'm currently Thinking something like this...
Master Marksman 77points (4/4/4/4/M)Marksman
Apprentice Teras Kasi 29points (4/0/0/0)Brawler
Hunter/Explorer 43 points (4/0/4/0)Scout
Master Creature Handler 63points (4/4/4/4/M)Creature handler
Pyro 20points (0/0/4/0)Commando
Is that good? I dunno, i like the idea of flame throwers... never actually seen one... but they sound like fun. I don't know if Cone of Flame 2 is worth mastering commando. Please help me work this out.
Thanks to all in Advance!

LOL.
After playing every day since beta for 10 hours (roughly) a day, grouping and running one of the best PAs on my server, asking all the excellent players in my guild their thoughts and then spending many more hours pouring over stats, characterbuilders and taking notes in the field.....
I came up with exactly that skillset.
It currently rules pvm and pvp hands down IMHO - go for it ![]()
I'm actually contemplating a second character doing just that.
Why?
Pets are needed tanks.
Flamethrower is best used within melee range, oh already have a tank, spam specials.
Master Marksman gives you wide access to every damage type except electricity.
Leaves enough points to have Novice Medic + 1
Basically the most self sufficient combat layout I've seen.
Actually that's similar to my current template, but I didn't choose to go so far into CH. Having been a Master CH pre and post patch, I decided it's not a very efficient use of my skill points, considering with 2/2/0/0 I can call out a Kliknik Queen with 9800 HAM, armor 2, ranged attack, poison and dizzy. At Master CH the best I can do is 2 of those or a Webmaster and something weak and 30 CL, like a Giant Sand Beetle for the blind, maybe. I've also decided early on Mastering Commando was a poor use of my skill points too, since at Flame 4 Ihave all the speed/accuracy bonuses of a Master Commando, and all the attacks but Flame Cone 2, and while that's a devastating PvP attack, it's certainly not critical or worth 3 trees of relatively limited/useless skills. In many situations it's actually better to use a lower damage fire attack for the massive wounds the fire dot causes.
In the end, I used my saved up points to get the entire Dirty Fighting tree for Smugglers, Feign Death, Low Blow, and Last Ditch compensate for my character's long range and PvP weaknesses perfectly when combined with Flame 4. I picked up the Pistoleer speed line for the lack of something better, the speed bonuses help in getting my 2.4 speed Launcher Pistol down to the 1 second cap, but not much else. Well, Novice Pistoleer's a must-have, stacking 2 bleeds with Launcher Pistol and then closing in to fire it up with the Flamethrower is a great way to take down large prey. Oh, and of course I still have enough points left over for Novice Medic +1 skill in it.
My template's not that great as a pure PvP template, if I wanted to do that, I would've stuck with Bounty Hunter, considering I had already gotten Pistol 4 in that. It is, however, the most balanced PvP/PvE template possible, combining access to top tier tank pets withgood directdamage and almost maximum dots. I'll probably have to surrender it all and redo Bounty Hunter again if they ever nerf the fire dots, though... Without those the Flamethrower's nearly as good as the LLC.
Wow, I got lots of Good Feedback, thanks a bunch, Here's my current Character, and prior to it a quick descrption of it's Motivation.
I love pets, I have, Since I started heard of this game, LOVED the thought of having a little kaadu or maybe even a Titavian follow me around (Titavians aren't in the game phooey) I want to be able to command a mighty army of animals, and give some animals to my friends. But, I am also a mildy violent person, and while I'd love to unleash the might of a Rancor upon som unsuspecting miscreant, I'd become very bored if I were forced to avoid the battle myself. So I decided that I'd indulge my militious personality (a result of many years of JROTC in School, and a Naval Father) and become a Commando, Looking over the commando class, even before it became the mighty and controversial weapon it is today, I fell in love with the Flame Thrower. MMmmm Fire. I love Fire. Finally, My power faming munchkin side saw that such a mighty force would not live long without some source of self sufficiency healing, so that is why I chose to have only have the Flame Branch, and Novice Medic.
After researching this build, I found that as of right now, CH isn't worth it to master unless you really want to, and that it'd be better to have it only 4/4/0/4. Truthfully, I'd still like to Master it, and if someone here can confirm that It'll be worth it say, after the mount patch comes out, I'll at the drop of a hat go for master, but otherwise, It'd be silly to master it if it's not worth it.
So here's the build
Master Marksman 77points (4/4/4/4/M)Marksman
Apprentice Teras Kasi 29points (4/0/0/0)Brawler
Novice Teras Kasi 6 (0/0/0/0)Teras Kasi
Novice Scout 52 points (4/0/4/2)Scout
Master Creature Handler 48points (4/4/0/4)Creature handler
Incendiary Specialist 20points (0/0/4/0) Commando
Novice Medic 17points (1/0/1/0) Medic
Total: 250 points
This should be a fun build. Of course, I'll revert to the original plus a little medic if Master CH means something, I'd really hate to know I abandoned Mounts for Novice CH and a better tent...
Thanks again!

Why do you have survival 2? drop it.
Are you sure you can use cl 50 pets with management 4? You need a 15% chance (i think it is that) to tame a creature to use it and i am pretty sure you don't get that on a cl 50 agressive with just taming IV.
Why novice tka? I suppose you just want it for the defence bonuses, but with a pet guarding you, is it really worth 6 skill points just for a little more defence?
I hear heavy support weapons are very good too. Yeah, they cost about 1k per shot on my server (i actually saw someone selling heavy particle cannons for 20k though), but they do tons of damage and they allow you to attack people from max range, unlike flame thrower specials.
oh and don't use a rancor in pvp because everyone will just outrun it.
Interesting, because you have quite a similar spread as me, except I have Medic...
This is my goal for now. (aweek or so more to go before completion)
- Master Marksman
- Brawler 4/0/0/0
- Commando 0/0/4/0
- Scout 4/0/4/0
- CH 2/2/1/3
- Medic 3/0/4/0
Ithink I'll eventually drop Medic down to Novice, but currently, I am able to use Stim D's that can heal up to 1600+a shot... I'm getting too used to this, and don't wanna go back to using Stim B's.
With the Medic points back,I think I'll go up to Master CH.
I've already dropped everything in both TKA (0/1/0/1) and Artisan (4/3/2/4) and slowly dropping Survival and OrgChem as I go up now.
The only difference I see between you and me is that you have TKA, I have Medic. ![]()
Commando 0/0/4/0 - 20
Creature handler 3/3/1/4 - 49
pistoleer 0/0/1/0 - 11
TKA novice - 6
Brawler 4/0/0/0 - 29
marksman master - 77
medic novice - 15
scout 4/0/4/0 - 43
figure this will give me good short and long range fighting capabilties, plus the power of commando and the help of pet tanks. plus the ability to sell some pets to make some cash on the side
