I feel kinda silly asking this since ive been a Commando forever but i have several FT's some high speed some high damage. Now I always assumed that we were speed caped at master like alot of other proffesions, now i'm not so sure. So which of these to flamers would be better is they both had the same accuracy.
Spd: 5.1
Dam 619-1123
or
Spd:3.1
Dam: 445-843
Now ive been using the high damage flamers figuring that we where speed caped at master if that is not the case im thinking the speed flamer would be better to use do to the delay of are specials. Thanks for the help folks.

Okay first off at Master I would say Commando is the slowest class and nowhere near speed capped with specials. So I would choose the higher damage one because if you're slow you might as well try and hit for alot of damage.

Keep both. I haven't parsed it, but i've been playing a commando for a long time & this seems to be the best damage overall.
Use high damage one on high heat resist mobs, because you're getting all your damage our of burns.
Use high damage one on long fights with medium resist to heat.
Use speed one on mobs that die fast.
Use speed one on low heat resist or vuln mobs.
Use speed one when you're trying to keep burns on a lot of mobs.
G'luck

At master lvl, with a 3.7 Spd flamer i have about a 8-9 second delay...with a 4.5 spd flamer (similar stats to that dmg btw) it was around 10-11 seconds
Currently i have a 3.4 spd flamer...504-956 dmg...the speed is a godsend...i crank specials out around 6.5-8 seconds per...
a 3.1 spd flamer will be even faster...
Id highly recomend speed over damage, as you'll gain more DPS...especially with our accuracy and speed (if your target blocks the shot, which would you rather have? a 6k dmg shot in 6 seconds, or a 8k dmg shot in 10 seconds?)
Edit: Also the post above explains it well if you can afford both...I generally stick with the higher speed flamers, as im frugal with my cash hehe...plus I generally like keeping things simple (without having to switch through everything...already got 2 toolbars dedicated to combat, dont need anymore!
)

From what I see high speed is better. High damage ones usually hit for about the same damage and really you can do more damage just because the speed one is faster. I'm probably gonna get rid of my high damage one because it's just nothing compared to the fast one. Remember that extra 2 or 3 seconds makes the difference in those close call situations. You've got to have a decent speed to keep up with everybody else. I'll test my heavy damage one some more to make a final decision.

I think the faster flamethrower will do more DPS. I only use my 1100+ flamethrower on things that take more than 5 minutes to kill.

use both, different situations call for a different flamer.
got somethinbg that will kill you quick?
you need speed.
got something you can tank all day and not get hurt?
you need damage.
got something withh 100% flame resist?
depends... i usually use damage flamer to get a bigger burn.
remember a 100% heat resist kimo will still get an awesome burn DOT.
the bigger the burn dot, the faster the death of the target.
DPS isnt just the inicial attack its also the burn DOT's effectiveness.
