Thread: Pistol Techniques or Dirty Fighting?

Which line would you choose if you were making a PvP oriented template?

I was thinking Pistol Techniques for the defenses and Stopping Shot, a very viable ability for one-on-one battles, and Dirty Fighting for Low Blow.

I'm looking for some insight from experienced commandos who have used these skills and can provide some concrete evidence as to which is more effective.

Thanks much.

Honestly, once you get to a certain level in commando you'll throw aside your pistol in favor of the massive damage of the Flamethrower and expendables. Then you'll get your butt whooped in PvP multiple times and realize that LP is your friend.

What you have to consider is how you want to fight - I assume you're asking which of the two lines to take. Personally, I would take DF over Tactics. My style depends on big, heavy hits, which means closing to within 20m and using Flamethrower specials. Using Low Blow with the LP (or any other pistol) is an effective way to afford yourself the ability to not only close in with your enemy, but magnify the damage your attack will do (remember, +25% against knocked down enemies). The only downside to this approach is the knockdown timer, meaning you absolutely must succeed in closing quickly enough that you still have time to take a knee and fire the flamethrower.

If you want to take the Pistol Tactics line, be prepared to use the LP as your main PvP weapon. Stopping Shot becomes a mainstay for you in this instance. However, you won't be able to effectively close to 20m to use your flamer as a finishing blow, meaning you will likely find yourself relying more on the pistol. However, you may find moronic enemies who close range when they see your pistol because of ranging bonuses to their weapons - these people are flamethrower fodder, nothing more.

One thing to keep in mind, however, is that the Last Ditch Assault DF skill isa very rough carbon copy of Stopping Shot. Taking DF to 4 instead of 3 (only 2 points more) will give you all the bonuses of Pistol Tactics save the defense modifiers (which aren't very big modifiers anyways).

Dirty fighting... nothing ticks people off more in PvP than lighting them on fire, the hitting /feigndeath hehe... works great on creatures too hehe.

Dirty Fighting has to be one of the best designed skill tree in the game.

Dirty fighting is great panic shot will be fixed soon. Low blow even with the timer is great and last Dtich is one of the most damaging pistol shots in the game. I do as much as 4k damage with a nice launcher pistol. Lets not forget about FD its a serious life saver in PvE although I dont think its that great in PvP becuase you can take some serious wounds from mad players that want toDB you.

Yuo might think about getting a few pistol mods thought becuase without accuracy and or speed you will be missing alot more and your last ditchs will be 5 seconds apart.

But if its just to help out with your commando then you might not care as much. The one good thing about pistoleer specials are the defense mods you get with the specials.
