Thread: Heartbreaker...

I've used all of your insight and advice to take me from a brand spanking newbie to the verge of novice commando. After completing unarmed IV (using the advice you all have given) I rushed to the Commando trainer, only to be laughed at due to my inadequate Combat point total. I was ignorant to the required 40k combat points I need, and have only aquired 15k. OUCH! So I humbly ask you all, what is the best way to gain Combat Points?

Grind.

But seriously, combat experience is perhaps the most difficult one to obtain since, as a general rule, combat experience is roughly 10% of damage experience. Now, there are a few things you can do to maximize combat experience:

1. Get some grenades (buy them or loot them) and use them at the start of a fight. Switch to your gun, hit a DOT attack and hit peace. When the mob dies you get FULL combat experience.

2. I've found that buying cheap grenades from weaponsmiths, and using them on low-level mobs (such as Worrts and Rills outside most cities on Tatooine for example), yields the maximum amount of combat experience per hour for a non-commando.

Hope this helps a little...

I got all my combat experience before I decided to become a Commando. Mostly with a pistol. Combat experience is combat experience.. it doesnt matter what weapon you use to get it. I had 70k when I trained Commando. Pick your best gun that does the most damage, be it pistol, rifle or carbine, and kill a lot.. it adds up.. Using a pet helps to as you can actually pick on things that are a little above your abilities and get great XP.

Combat XP is the only thing that I really never had any problems with...

Easiest way? Grind yourself up to Trapping III... make a bunch of snare traps and solo big monsters. You'll get 2-3k's worth of Pistol/Rifle/Carbine XP, and 2-300 worth of Combat XP. I used to use Humbabas all the time. As an added plus you max out your other lines...

I grinded mine using destroy missions west of bestine. Trapping 3 really helped. You can also use C12 grenades, if you are marksman. It did not take as long as I thought it would. If you stay focused on your missions and do the good nests you find in between waypoints, it will happen before you know it. Try not to keep a combat xp check when you are running missions. You know, the watched pot never boils thing.

Cu'pas are excellent grind mobs, non social and when you attack their nest, a bunch of them start spawning. You can stay on one nest for about 15 or 20 mins of solid hunting if you use a little sense. They don't DB either.

Feral banthas are my absolute favorite. Still non-social, relatively easy for the xp they give out and slow.

Stand 64m away from one, use your health bleed and the pot shot until its about 30m away then then kite it.

Or, if you have a cowardly gurreck or other pet, bleed the bantha, hit peace, wait until it gets about 30m away, then sic your pet on it, wait a few rounds of combat until your pet has solid aggro and then kneel and start shooting.

The grenade trick is really the best. Think about it, even on littler mobs you get full combat xp PLUS the 10% combat xp..

There are some pretty easy mobs out there that give you 1817 xp.. thats2k combat xp per unit..

I wish I had known about this when I was leveling up, but at the time I needed pistoleer skills anyhow and got my combat xp going up those lines.

I just did a bunch of faction missions with my pistol so that I could get novice pistoleer and combat xp for commandoat the same time. Plus, if you are a rebel (an species) or a human imp, you can trade in your faction points for combat xp at 1:1, so that can help save you a few hours of grinding when you get close.

NADES NADES NADES...

1.) go to weaponsmith, buy a couple of crates of C12 Fragmentation Grenades.

2.) Take yourself to Restuss on Rori.

3.) Take missions for squalls, any type as they are all slow creatures.

4.) put a bleed on each one and kite them.

5.) after they are bleeding toss a nade, you will get full Combat xp, plus 10% Combat xp. on a Leviasquall thats 1817 xp, plus 180 for nearly 2000 combat xp per kill.

After 3 or 4 lairs of Leviasqualls you should be able to head to your freindly neighborhood Commando Trainer, at the Rebel Outpost, if you're Rebel that is.

Isacoast's is the fastest way.

Personally I would just start grinding pistol XP normally (and getting the related Combat XP from that). You can use it then to get yourself either smuggler or pistoleer--the special moves of which can be used with the LP once you're a commando (and that will then help you gain Heavy Weapons XP easier)

Or you could grind unarmed XP to get yourself to Teras Kasi, so you can work on getting their defensive bonuses. The dirty little secret of the Commando class is that we die a LOT. We take a lot of folks with us, but we're usually the first target for both PvP and PvE.

Heh, knowing about the grenades combat would probably have helped (i went with Carbineer as I wanted to be different) but I just hung out in Bestine, Anchorhead, and Mos Entha alot and went on alot of Hunts. Day 1: Tusken Fort raid -20k Combat XP, Day 2: Squill Caves - 10k Combat XP, Day 3: Krayt Hunt, 10k Combat XP and done, and they were all fun and very intense.

So my idea was find a weapon (Pistol, Rifle, Carbine) that you fancy, get a good one + slice + powerup and get in some good groups But sounds like the grenade bit is probably much faster (in fact may do some of that to grind up some combat xp for my carbine tree...)

Become a medic and heal in hunting parties while fighting. This way to still get approximately the same weapon experience and (depending on how much you heal) you can make almost twice as much combat experience. Remember though, you don't get experience from healing yourself.

I too would have to vote for 'nades to be the fastest way.

The funny thing is now that I've been maxed out for a while, I have 300,000 unused combat xp... how funny is that? I guess if I ever decide to go up the grenade tree, I'll havea nice start.
