Ok in know this sounds bazzzaaarrrr..but here is a thought. In most of the wars fought in the mid 1950's and previous most every soldier carried a rifle. The rifleman was tought to not only be accurate with his shots but to also kick ure limey ass when u got to close to him e.g rifel is now bow-staff. I know this would not be implimented into the game but really if some dumb ass would come runin up to a soldier in ww2 armed only with brass knuckles that dude was bound to get a beat down. im not implying that rifle specials for melee be put in the game but takin away the damage multiplyer only seems fair...anyone else like to comment?

theres a difference between a long rifle (sniper rifle), and an assult rifle. theres a difference between a semi automatic rifle and a fully automatic rifle (duh). if some one came up to you with a knife and you try to fight at close range with a large rifle, your ass would be handed to you. if a rifleman could hit as hard as a tka, but at a distance, then whats the point of being a tka? you have to give melee something to make up for the fact that they have to be right next to you to do any damage. youre suppose to kill them before they get to you, youre suppose to use your special attacks to create an advantage, youre suppose to use your brain. if youre tired of being raped in melee, then get suppression fire from the marksman ranged weapon support tree.

ok agreed i see ure point...that is why it was just a thought hehe....second of all im a 1/4/4/2 commando and i know how to handle melee class=) i was just saying sumtin that really happend...like the T21 is a huge ass gun and i think multiplyers should be added to that...now like a laser rifle that is about the same size as an M1 Grande that was used in WW2 so i dont think the multiplyer should be that high..granted all this is very micro managing but it can be done...i just think the 2.5x across the board is a lil bit rediculous.

I disagree, for purposes of melee combat, the only difference is if the rifle has a bayonet attached or not. Besides, even if a knife weilder has an advantage over a guy with a rifle, if the rifleman has had even basic melee training he's better off with the rifle than without it, which is not the case in SWG.

The problem is that the damage multiplier is a balance factor, and has nothing to do with reality. It was merely part of an attempt to create a rock/paper/scissors system where riflemen were good at long range, but sucked up close. It was also an attempt to make melee classes more useful by being able to do more damage to riflemen. This is still valid in PvP, but the problem is that in PvE just about everything melees, which makes riflemen, and now commandos, far less effective.

This is not real life. If youre looking for that kind of realism....go outside. This is a game. In reality a flamethrower will ALWAYS kill in one hit againsy "soft" (flesh) targets. Should it be that way in the game? Of course not. We dont want 100% realism...we want 100% fun. (note: fun does not mean winning in every pvp, or duel)

calm down im not saying this should happen im just trying to stick up for riflemen...and yes a lil realism is required to make the came relevant...and it's not fun when a rifleman has to suffer crazy damage meby it should be 1.5x for stand 2.0x for kneel and 2.5x for prone give them a little sumthing i mean come on..

please, please, please, stop comparing a game to RL:

In RL a sniper could kill you in one shot without a problem. In RL a Flmethrower would kill you in one spray without a problem (almost instantly on top of that), in RL, a pistoleer could kill you in one shot. in RL a Tiger would rip you apart, even if you have tenfold your pistol skills, in RL an Elephant would mow you down, if you don't have a small army.....

get the picture? If you compare the Game to RL and would adjust it, to be like in RL, you would be dead, once you walked 5m on any advanced planet, regardless, what your skill. Would that be fun? No, i would not. hence, something called "game mechanics". if you don't ölike the game mechanics of this game, play another. period. But do not compare RL to a game. It is simply ridiculous and let's you look like fools.

No, it doesn't. They should hit the same as if you were holding a chair or a breadstick. Which is just as hard as if you were holding nothing.
