I once complained I had no shoes, till I met a man who had no feet.

I read the most intelligent assessment so far. A poster, name withheld, wrote,

"You have 2 extremely valuable skills from your brawler tree. Use intimidate to cut your enemies damage in half, so in reality the 2.5 multiplier is 1.25. Use warcry to delay your targets next attack by 10 seconds so you have time to recover from using your specials."

You know what? I never ever thought of this! I use these when I'm use my melee skills but ha ha, I never thought to try this.I mean duh right? My warcry is one of my favorite moves, and intimidate is good stuff too.

I also had an ingame experience with a poor soul who's very situation makes me love this profession. I ran into him out side a starport. I'm withholding his name and location, even though what happened to him by no means his fault. Anyways, he had roughly 750 health wounds. My animations were running slow and he asked me to put out his fire. I didn't understand what he meant till he incapped and his wounds jumped from the 300ish I had healed him to, to a whopping 687. (I mean wow) He told me he was forced to flee off world to escape a flame thrower toting commando. If we can inflict these types of wounds, set abalaze our enemies, and force them to flee us, WHY NOT?

I can't wait till I figure out the combo's to do this sort of damage. Mix in a few warcry1 and intimidate. And viol'a, flame be' 'a la de'Outsider.

Anyone else have any thoughts on this? I mean I can use these melee specials with BFGuns in my hands right? I can set man, xenos, and animal alight with my flame thrower correct? I can reap death and destruction with missiles, grenades, acid, and particle beam incadesent fury against all that I can target yes?

No, I do not ask to do this without fear of my own pain, suffering or occasional death but I'll do it because I will shake the heavens with my thunder, drown the cowering in blood, and slake my God's fury with the souls of the unwary!!! (insert evil laugh here)

I will also occasionally lay on my back, incapped, letting the gentle sun or suns caress my body while I ponder the resistances of the really bad idea that just reminded me I was mortal. I will spend time wondering if I'm really me and if a familiar pile of bones was me once. If the once illegal theory and practise of cloning is all that allows me to go on. (sigh was it really a good day to die?)

REJOICE in what we are! It could be worse, we could be droid engineers. It could be better, we could be creature handlers. But who wants to live forever?

Yes these things can help alot, but did you just say you cant figure out why your no longer God? So that proves that most of the commandos are 1337 d00dz......

What you said makes a lot of sense,we will have to make do with what have, and I mean no offense, but I offer this as a counterpoint: I am still very new to the field of commando (1-1-1-1 I am mastering this no matter what), but, If I had wanted to do Intimidate/Warcry combos,I would have taken an TKA or something in the Brawler tree, and be more effective at it and have more points to spread around. If I had wanted to do Suppression/Warning/PB shot combos like some others suggest, I would have taken Pistoleer or something in the Marksman tree, and be more effective at it with more points to spread around. I think that,at least for me, is what makes this aggravating:it seems they are intent on having us be ranged when that is what is convienent to hurt us the most, but then turn around and also have us be melee what that is what is convienent to hurt us the most.

Good Point. I'm not even that high on the Commando tree. 0-0-0-0

I will admit I do have novice pistoleer, but I'm also working on novice TKA. Its is definately hard, not enough skill points to spread around. But I know what you mean. If we're Master Marksmen why can't we outshoot others? If we're TKA students why can melee classes out fight us? Doesn't make sense to me either but I like hunting paralopes with a launcher pistol. No nerfs can take that away, yet.

You made a good point as well: the fact of the matter is that for the time being we have to at least try and use what we've got, anything less would be a disservice. If nothing else,it will at least give us a little credence when we speak out on the topic. I think the real problem here is threefold:

1) The profession itself was originally very lousy, then was made very good, and now is being made losier again (though not as loust as before). Letting us glimps greatness for a little then taking it away was proabably a far far worse thing to do than doing nothing and leaving us stinky.

2) The whole damage multiplier was applied to balance the abuse some were comitting in PvP(this was correct, from what I understand we were too strong in PvP). However, their method of going about balancing things was to go it the easy route andunilaterally screw the whole commando experience(PVP & PVE)instead of just adressing the specifics of the problem(PvP), which in turn made it that I now have to somewhat worry and have to rely on extra sets of skills to handle something that a novice marksman can handle with ease, which in turn leads many to feeling frustrated, and rightfully so, as it seems you spent all the time and hard work to be less efective than before.

3) Looking at the ranged modifers and special for the flame thrower,it was obviously modelled for close-in,melee range use. Now,in an effort to balance, they are trying to turn it into something it is not, a long range weapon. This causes many players to feel as if they being punished for using the weapon as it was intended to be used,no doubt a frustrating experience.

Really, what I would like to see is instead of bickering, for all combat professions to band together and push for a total reworking of the combat system wherein all professions would have a chance to really shine, both in PvE and PvP....which would include totally removing the stupid damage modifier from all classes (with the exception of bonus damage on those in lowered postures) and instead using the range/to-hit modifiers as the determining factor with respect to range, for example:

Re-work the range categories as follows: Melee/Short/Medium/Long/Max

Max(65-85M)nly rifles can reach this far,and really shine here, having a significant chance of hitting.

Long(50-64M):All projectile weapons can reach this range but rifles still, having a good chance to hit, carbines and HAR having a somewhat chance to hit, pistols and flame thrower and slim chance to hit

Medium(25-49M):At this range, Carbines and the HAR start to shine as they develop a significant chance to hit, while rifles effectiveness begins to decrease, though still having a somewhat chance to hit, pistols and flame throwers have a somewhat chance to hit, though slightly less than a rifle

Short(24-6M)istols and Flame Thrower really shine here, having their best chance to hit , Carbine and HAR see their performance drop off somewhat though still maintaining a decent chance to hit, rifle effectiveness trails off rapidly and the chance of hitting becomes low

Melee(1-5M):So named becuase this range is ruled by,obviously, melee weapons, they quickly become the most effective off all weapons at this range, while the projectile weapons noticeably ramp down in effectiveness, Pistol and Flame Thrower still remain viable, though not consistent in hitting, Carbine quickly trails to a very slim chance in hitting, while rifle sees its accuracy effective drop to nil, though the very rare 'lucky shot' would not be out of the question.

The support typre weapons of the Commando tree (Grenades,HPC,etc.) would fit in here, probably one at each of the ranges save melee, although they would see slightly diminshed effectiveness from that of the non-support weapons, perhaps as a trade off for gaining the ability to inflict very short term status effects. The Bounty Hunter's LLC is a weapon I am not familiar with so I cant say for certain, but as a guess,I would venture it would fall into the same range as the HAR. But of course this is all just me and my common sense talking....

Btw,a '1337 d00d' is a slang term for a person who takes a profession just because one aspect is out of whack strong and abuses that aspect to death, esp. in PvP situations, and behaves badly while doing it,thus giving all in that profession a bad name. In the case of Commando,it would be a person who takes Commando just so they can get Flame Thrower to 4 since it was a little too strong, then go around doing things like repeatedly griefing other players just because they can, also insulting other players and generally behaving like a weenie, often with horrible grammar(i.e. 'D00d tells you: Haha I just soloed like 45000 atsts and 300000 troopers at once because I rool and you all suk then this dude was sittin so I flamed his *** and I let him get bak up an kep doin it over and over til he got all pissed and logged rofl ') Hope that clarifies that for you
