Thread: Still, many questions for TH, LordS, where are you?

Ok LordS, I know there are several things with real life that can take you away from these forums, but we have actualy seen TH post more than you here lately.

There are several questions that I feel need answered.

1. TH says with defense mods not stacking, our HWs will become more useful. I hope thats with HAM cost reduction also and maybe something to make it easier for WS to craft em so we can actually find em. Now, thats all fine and good but what about our HAR? Its not really about the weapons accuracy there, its about our skill mods being totally unefective.

2. Does TH realize how dependent commandos are on using other professions to help us? A good example is without defense stacking, we got a lousy 25 melee/ranged and almost no status effect defense, and, Im not sure but Im sure damned near the only combat profession without a dodge, block, or counter. Dodging with HWs sounds crazy, so does puting up a pressurized can of napalm to block, so I'd say a counter would be better.

3. One reason I always thought that BHs should get to add pistol accuracy/speed mods from pistoleer and the same for carbineer is because we have more ability to dable to improve us defensively or throuh LP specials through pistoleer. Since our options are now limited on what will enhance our "commando fighting" aside from just fighting using another profession, I am wondering Will we still get to use pistoleer specials? And Can we have our own speed acuracy and specials for the LP to stack with pistoleer mods much like the BH?

You see, Im not worried much about fire extinguishers or DoT resists, it all sounds fair to me if we werent so broken. With defense stacking going away that will make us a little more broken and if we cant use pistoleer bonuses to our LP with our own bonuses we will still be more broken even if the HAR gets fixed. We really need defenses of our own with the defense stacking going away. I currently have 94 melee and 92 ranged and I dont see myself being in that power stacker range as I still get hit quite readily, however, I do see the big problem of having only 25 melee/ranged, little status effect defense, and no counter move.

I know that we cannot expect to be invulnerable to all, however, we do need our own independence.

You know Techno, you just gave me an idea...

People keep telling us over and over "commandos can't be powerful, they are a support class." TH seems to think that as well...

Now, we all know that is an idiotioc thing to think, based on the our huge skill point investments.

Since no one seems to be listening to our pleas, maybe we should draft a commando "Declaration of Independence," and attempt to redefine ourselves as a non-support class.

/sigh

Uhhh, tell me about it. I hate the fact that people want to consider us a support class. If anything, everyone else should be the support class.

The thing is, everyone else should excel in their specific fields over us, but we should be more rounded. For example from real life (yeah I know this is a video game, but its a sci-fi! Meaning theres some truth to be had)

Ok, we are the Army rangers, trained in hand to hand, explosives, rifles, carbines, and a side arm for good measures. We would be the front line, going head on into conflict.

Ok, now rifleman would be easiest to use here. They are snipers! Snipers typically stay out of face to face combat and usually hide and shoot from range as a stand alone, but mainly they are a great support role. You got a platoon of commandos move in, the sniper provides support by staying back in the distance picking people off that might be able to set up an ambush on the group of commandos.

You see, while I see us as being great in groups, whos supporting who here? On top of that, rangers have their own specialists which would be snipers, scouts, explosive guys, etc. Thats the way I look at it when I think of secondary professions for commando. Some of us might be good hand to hand, some of us might be better with a rifle in other words, take some rifleman.

For the most part, the taking specialties seemed to work but with defense stacking going away, that takes away a big aspect but the big problem is in the standard commando does not have the versatility they need.

I dont want to say we have to be as good as the other elites with their weapon, we shouldnt. But we should be better than our pre reqs and have the choice of being a commando sniper specialist or unarmed specialist, something to where we can use those skill points we have left over and pick our flavor to excell in.

I'm right with you guys on this one, it drives me insane that people would think of a commando as being a support class, particularly given our heavy investment in combat-related skills.

The way I envisioned the profession we focus on versatility with a bit if explosives thrown in for good measure, being able to complement our well-rounded skills in combat with specific skills (aka pick up rifleman or carbineer as a companion profession to accentuate skills of your choice.)

Really, if everyone wants a heavy weapons support profession so bad, I'd really prefer it if they would either A) scrap commando so the profession name doesn't fool anyone into thinking that's what it is and change it to Heavy Weapons Expert, or B) start over again from square one and totally re-design the profession, or C) both.

A Heavy Weapons guy should be all about supportm supression, and demolition - a commando should be about effectiveness through skill and versatility.

No doubt. We aren't friggen support, we're the mainstay! We're the grunts while the elite professions are the specialists. BH is in a catagory all it's own so lets not bring it up.

Hmm onto the topic of questions for TH, are we scheduled to have any new weapons added in publish 6 or 7 like some of the other ranged professions are getting?

I believe our "Declaration" is the post put on what defines a Commadno here:

http://forums.station.sony.com/swg/board/message?board.id=in_concept&message.id=11

As for not posting as much as TH, well I have been on the Corr forums posting, as well as bugging TH for some responses. Plus trying to find out all I can about upcoming changes to help you guys *I may not be able to announce WHAT they are, but if I know, then I can take current ideas and move them with the upcoming changes*

The thing about getting answers right now is, well the whole Balance that is currently in the process of happening, and the Dev's say a lot is covered in there. The thing is specifics change based on internal stuff; so we have no hard dates or info as of yet. But I know we'll be cracking the stuff hard, and testing thoroughly, once the balance is done. Once we're past that we can bring the major issues to the Devs that remain.

TY LordS. I do think you are doing your best, Just so you know I wasnt implying that you werent, I just wanted to give you a few ideas of what we need to know.

The IC for commando just has so many diferrent things in there that do vary from post to post. I recomend we go 5 star the ones we really like.

I personally dont care much for my own in light of recent changes that have been announced but there are some there that still have great ideas. We really need to try to support the ideas we like there or we will wind up getting stuck in a profession that everyone else wants us to be.

LordS, do you think we could start a thread where we get some nominees from that post that we like, then have all of us vote on it then present it to the DEVs as a united stand for our profession?

I don't think 5 star voting would do much good. Someone could put "I want us to be uber and beat everything" and someone would have 5 stars next to it.

Maybe take good ideas from each and just make up a new one. Ideas could be could be posted here in a new thread and everyone could vote on the ideas they like. Voting would be a posted thing and not star voting. Someone who's at least decent at writing could rewrite those ideas into a new post in the concept commando post to make it understandable. Label it as The Commando Forum Suggestion or whatever.
