Thread: Perhaps we need to make sure Commando is not too powerful.

Must admit starting to see on boards now peeps saying the answer to CU is to go commando...
I can see people flocking to the what they perceive as the uber prof...
You know those type of people....who just have to be uber or the best...
Well, Commando, and (I haven't checked much) the Smuggler forums seem to be the places where people aren't whining about the CU. And, we're probably the two most improved professions in the CU. So it seems natural for people to think the Commando "is the answer for the CU'.
In my opinion, I'd rather be powerful and possibly susceptible to FOTM, than be underpowered and laughed at by idiots every time a tka kills me.
If we get a hoard of new people who want to be "uber" in the forums, we've just got to make surethey don't get out of hand and go along on our daily business.

Okay, this is likely going to be unpopular with money of you. Now, let me first say, I love many of the changes to commando the CU is bringing. Being able to use more weapons and grenades really makes me feel like a true commando. But lately, I have been hearing MANY people say that they are planning to go commando after the CU. Yes we haven't tested the elite profession yet, but when we do, we may want to make sure that we are not at a level where we become a FOTM. I don't know about the rest of you, but I like the commando community the way it is. I don't want it to become saturated with people only choosing the profession because its "uber". Basically, we need to just make sure that we are gods of war to the point that a large majority of the population comes to the profession and takes away any unique qualities we could have.
The commando community has a proven track record that we don't want to be "uber"...Awhile back we had a definite advantage over other ranged professions when we did the Melee Damage bonus to them via our attacks. We felt it was over-powering and worked hard to get it changed even though we knew it would decrease our power. In the end, we became the targets as well for the Melee Damage bonus.
So I totally agree...no flames...If we see something on TC5 that over-powers us, we'll be the first to suggest it get's decreased...already many of us noticed that the pre-Commando grenades were a bit juiced up and suggested decreases...we'll do the same for post-Commando abilities if that's the case...
Our advantage should be Heavy initial damage, but comparable sustainable DPS over time...If we meat that goal, we will be balanced well...if we have higher intial damage AND higher DPS then our opponents, even over time, then we'll be over-powered...if we have higher intial damage, but much lower DPS over time when compared to our opponents, then we'll know we are under-powered. Either way, we'll be testing closely to try and get as close to that "balance" as we can.

Like Garvin says, Commando is basiclly a"powerup"for every other profession ranged profession and after looking at the entire tree I can see why he says that. Commando is gonna be a hell of a profession stand alone, add in Rifleman, BH, or Pistoller and it'll be alot like a melee stacker is now I think. So I'm sure Commando and BH will be switching FOTM for awhile untill the Devs swing the almighty Nerf Bat on them.
If things stay as they are or are fairly close, I expect to see Commandos as often as I see TKMs now.
Its really the users play style now more i think *hopefully* Those who are smugglers could take up pistoleer. Honestly the three main marksman professions are what i'd consider the "powerups" granted, they're the base classes, we're more of the elite class. We're Commandos....but I'm a commando specialized in carbines...and you're one specialized in rifles, or pistols. Or maybe you chose to use your commando skills to catch bounties....or you chose to be a squad leader, the elite of the elite. Thats what we are.
