Okay, whenI first started playing the game, I was a commando. Since then I have dropped/picked-up Commando2 times, but never Mastered it. ( I was not a FS Nade grinder )

Right now, I am a Master Fencer/Master Rifleman, and the rest into medic. My question is, will I be able to pick up Master Rifle/Commando when the CU hits and we are [supposed to be] allowed to re-cert? Or should I start working on it right now? Can't seem to find a straight answer.

I'm not trying to be a CU-FOTM person, It just seems like a good combo with all the new changes.

commando no longer requires you to master marksman as a pre-req. To get commando you need unarmed 4 and ranged support 4. If you are haveing trouble figureing out the SP you have to work with, might I suggest you use this character builder.

About the only thing we know for sure (and nothing is really for sure) is that there will be a "respec" and that it will be "point for point"...so if you've spent 250 pts, you should be able to respec all 250 pts into other areas (if that's what you want)...but if you've only spent 200 pts, then you'll likely only have 200 pts to respec.

We also know it will be a "one time thing" that you can use anytime you want (you don't have to respec on day 1). Some folks might keep grinding there way up to 250 pts spent before they respec.

We don't know for sure yet whether all the respec points have to be spent in Combat to be respec'd to combat professions...rumors are floating around.

The one thing TH did say for sure was, just before launch to live he'll be posting a "Guide to Respec'ing" that will have all the anwers...so we'll have to keep an eye out for that...

If I had to make a suggestion...keep with what you are doing now and spend all the points you can...as long as they are all (or almost all) are in Combat, you should be safe...

Garvin,

Wouldn't you expect Doctor to be a profession that would count in the respec? It seems that they are significantly impacted by tree changes, so I would hope the Devs would include those trees in the respec.

Depends on how much stock you put in rumors...I've seen rumors (and I chalk them up to "just rumors"), that Combatpoints spent will be respec'able into combat areas, while non-Combat points poinits will be respec'able only into non-Combat areas...So it's possible that if you've spent 169 points to Master Commando, then put the rest into non-Combat areas, you may only have 169 points that you can reallocate into Combat areas, and the rest of the points would be available to put back into non-Combat areas...

Again...This is all heresay...we don't know anything for sure yet...and I know as much as you all...I'm just going off what I've read and heard from others....even the Dev posts on the subject have changed many times from what was originally stated...I've seen info that says all points spent will be able to be respent anywhere...I've seen info that says ONLY combat points will be able to be respec'd...and I've seen the whole Combat vs. Non-Combat respec rumors...the safest bet right now is to (1) just hold tight and keep doing what you are doing, & (2) hope that the current plan is still to allow you to do your respec whenever you want (so you can save it to use after you know how it will all work...to allow for template tweaking before you respec).

Thanks as always for setting the table Garvin.

It would seem reasonable to me that the respec would allow the movement of skill points from any affected profession to any affected professions. With the prereq changes, if I want to keep TK, I don't have the "option" of waiting to respec my toon, I have to do it immediately or I won't (theoretically) qualify for TK. Likewise, my doctor toon won't be able to craft any longer, and will need to move boxes to Bio Eng if I want to craft (which I may not!), or into combat to be able to survive more effectively.

I can MAYBE rationalize not moving skill points from "unaffected" professions into other areas (like artisan type crafters), but I also would not object if they could move skills around.

But those are only my thoughts on the topic. We'll wait and see what happens. Thanks for the sharing of your understanding.

kinda rediculous...i used the CU character builder, and you can end up with around +180 Melee and Ranged Defense...thats insane. TKM/M Commando/Rifleman x/4/4/x that's bad news bears.....i wonder if all the templates work out to this much defense

Don't forget that the Damage formulas are changing in the CU...+180 Defense Pre-CU is not the same as +180 Defense Post-CU. Same goes for Speed, Accuracy, etc...the way you should be looking at things (until we can fully test them) is, how does that "compare" to other template builds...Although, for all we know, +120 could have only a slightly noticible difference in effect from +180 in the post-CU world...

Besides...if the Devs see it as too much, then they'll reduce it...that's what TC5 is primarily about...creating a fair balance.
