Thread: A Proposition: End the Conflict about who *should* get the Proton Carbine with Multi-Certs!

Ok, I must admit, I'm pretty upset that we get no carbine and a rifle, and the BHs get two carbines, especially one that is so commando-esque and something we've been asking for since we saw it in the hacked .tre files. However, this is not a BH bashing thread, nor is it a Dev bashing thread. This is rather a proposition for one of two ways that you could let all of the professions that want the proton carbine get what they want.

Proposition 1:

  • Give Riflemen the Proton Rifle.

  • Cert the Proton carbine to Master Box in Bounty Hunter, Carbineer, and Commando.

  • Alternatively, to show that Carbineers are the masters of Carbines, give it to them at a tier 4 box.

This solves the conflict between the bounty hunters and commandos, and gives carbineer a weapon they've been asking for too. the carbineer corr has been asking for something like this for a while.

Proposition 2:

  • Cert the Proton Rifle to Riflemen, Commandos, and Bounty Hunters.

  • Cert the Proton Carbine to Carbineers, Commandos, and Bounty Hunters.

This basically turns the equippable proton weapons into multi-certed weapons. You could decide to make them rare as toemphasize their power (power enough to make 4 professions get their certs). This way, everyone gets the weapons they want, and we all walk away happily shooting durnis and cu-pas.

So, could I get some dev/player feedback on this idea? Is it good or bad? Would it work? Ect, ect.

I hear what your saying and in a way I agree but in another way I dissagree. I'm a Bounty Hunter and what we've been lacking is cool Profession Specific weapons. The Master Bounty Hunter box in the CU when first launched was still nothing to be desired. It hardly had anything there, now with this cert, we get a really cool gun at Master! However, I do realize other professions are upset about this, but the devs need to find a way to make every profession and weapons unique, making one gun available to everybody is something I'm COMPLETELY against, we saw what happend to Composite armor in the current system, the weapons are the same way in the current system. No variety what so ever!

I like cross cerifications... but call the proton rifle a "rifle" and the proton carbine a "carbine" and not a heavy weapon. Give the certification to the heavy hitters. But, we won't be able to use it as well as the carbineer or the rifleman. Part of Commando is the ability to use a variety of weapons. That's what we love about it.

Here is the problem I see with Multi-Certs across various professions...our choices of who we combine with should be extremely though...I want to want other professions...the more different professions I want to combine with, the more fun this game will be in the end...

The way the devs make us "want" other professions is by putting something in them that makes us want them. They do this in the form of defensive capabilities, offensive capabilities, and WEAPON CERTS...

Weapons are not just put in a profession because they have "trainingwith that weapon"...they are partially put there to be inticing to other players who might not of alternatively wanted that profession...Putting the Proton Carbine in BH will make Carbineers want to become BH's more...Putting the Massassi Knucklers in Commando turns a few TK's heads...Putting the Proton Rifle in Commando makes Rifleman look our way...Putting a cool Pistol in Squad Leader makes Pistoleers consider SL...and so on and so on...

If we moved to a format where various certs were available in multiple professions, we lose an element that makes other professions more desirable to us...If I just want the Proton Carbine and it's available in both BH and Carbineer, but BH is much stronger then Carbineer, which path do you think I'll go as a Commando? Why would I want to go Carbineer, when I can get a stronger profession added to my template and the Proton Carbine to boot. That's a no-brainer decission. But, if Carbineer was more inviting, but BH gives me the Proton Carbine, now I have a harder choice...

The more we "multi-cert" weapons in different professions, it also increases the chances we'll see less diversity in template building...as with my example above, people will just head towards what they consider the strongest professions, since they'll know they'll also get the weapon they want as well...The more hard choices we have available to us, the more diversity we are going to see in template builds.

Besides...Why does every profession NEED every weapon? Why do we NEED a Carbine? I know we WANT one (I want one), but why do we NEED it? If a player feels they NEED it, they can dabble for it if their personal NEED is great enough...

Well the way the system is set up, if they give you the same weapon as a Carbineer, nothing is guaranteing that the Carbineer will use it better then you. The system in the CU does not work that way, they seem to be making professions better and tougher by adding specific weapons to that profession. I see what your saying and I agree that would be cool, but the current system and the CU does not support this at all. I personally feel, they need to do a lot more with the CU!

Right on Garvin.

As much as I would like the underslung carbine to be a Commando weapon like everyone else I dont mind at all taking up Carbineer to get it. I just hope they say where its going before I have to respec my live toon, especially if they dont change the xp based on lvl instead of your equipped weapon.

I'm sorry, I must be confused. Use the Carbine example. If the proton carbine was a carbine, and commando and carbineer are certified for it, the carbineer can use it better because both get the generic mods but the carbineer gets to add his carbine accuracy and carbine speed mods to them. If it was classified as a heavy weapon, the commando would get to add his mods to the generic and would use it better than the carbineer. Hence adding a generic and weapon specific damage mod.
