Thread: Roasting Rebels: Or, how I learned to stop being a gimp and love Flamethrowers

I was running some Imperial Missions today, and for a lark, decided to use my flamethrower instead of my Knuckler. The results, to say the least, were surprising.

The damage looked a little something like this... 190/164/670/120/170/720/820

So... does anyone have any idea why the flamethrower might actually be doing decent damage against Rebel Seargents and Lieutenants? Does it have something to do with the mystical armor modifier I hear so much about? I mean really... consecutive hits in the 600-800 range are fantastic. I'm actually gaining HW xp at a decent rate now.

Thats by far the best Ive ever seen DMG wise

If that was true then I say yes, there might be the armor myth (or a variation) in place.

It's true alright... and it's barrels of fun. I recommend people try it forthemselves.

The stats on my Flamethrower are 27-225 spd. 4.2 (sliced), crafted by Tead of Tatooine.

Its because the game thinks the flamethrower is a melee weapon at times. When those NPC's used a rifle, they took 3x damage. You'll notice this when you attack a lair, the game always says "you swing at a..."

Thats not true, the 650-800 dmg hits are what the flamethrower is supposed to do EVERY hit.

Flamethrower has an AR of 3, which gives 95% bonus damage to unarmored or AR 0 mobs.

When you get those hits on an NPC, you are hitting exposed parts of their body (parts without armor)

This effectively takes your damage of 50-350, and makes it 100-700

Sorry but that's incorrect. The game does in fact think the flamethrower is a melee weapon. This is why when you get hit by melee it's a 1:1 penalty right now. When they fix it we will be getting killed in 1 shot by chubas since it's supposed tobe a 3.0 penalty vs melee. I've never hit for over 400 against a mob or any melee/pistol weilders with my 260dmg flamethrower. When I fight anyone with a rifle I can get 800's, and that is the ONLY time I get that. The flamethrower is "supposed" to have an armor piercing rating higher hopefully, but right now that is not the reason we're hitting for 800's sometimes. I've tested this many a time, just take my word on it.

OK, so one says its because of armor and the other says its because of the weapon the mob has. Seems simple enough to sort out. Find NPCs that use melee and see if they get the big damage. Maybe find some NPCs without armor that use a rifle, too.

I've extensively tested this and anyone equipping a rifle gets hit for massive amounts of damage. I've yet to find a rifle weilder that doesnt get at least a hit in for 700+, and I have yet to hit for over 400 against anyone else.

Just did some more testing.. sadly...

Flamethrower shots get absorbed by over 50% by compositve.. I hit a guy for 575 and he absorbed 374 with 21% protection... this means we have a rating of 0.

Also fired a launcher pistol at him with same effects. His shots on my chitin armor got absorbed by over half as well. They're 0's firing at armor rating 1 armor

you may be right on this one, that would explain sometimes the bonus damage not working.

but even when the flamethrower gets fixed back to a rifle or whatever it should be, and the AR gets fixed, the dmg should still be in the range of 100-700 because of AR 3.

This word totally explain why I'm surviving against crazed Durnis at the moment. I think I'd be yanking my hair if we had the x3 damage AND the current misses/low damage Heavy weapons.

now if AR was working as it should for heavy weapons, you would have hit the same guy for over 800 damage. and he would have only resisted 21% of it. instead of 60-70%

It will be great when they fix flamethrowers, that way I can imagine actually having one on my flamethrowerless server.
