Thread: From the DEVS about Heavy Weapons
From the designer responsible:
This is deliberate.
Flamethrowers and the like only have 4 special attacks, and they are all limited to 16 meters. So they are very powerful close range weapons.
Lefthand fire weapons are the equivalent of special attacks, but they are also based around charges.. a rocket launcher does 1500 more damage than a t21 special move, but it also consumes a portion of the item..
All of the lefthand fire weapons have damage values that I consider to be competitive compared to other ranged weapons out there..
If the rocket launcher causes problems in pvp, my solution would be to make it harder to hit smaller targets (such as players).
The rest of these weapons are correctly setup (at least for now). The commando class gets next to no defensive mods. They have reusable weapons that are fully functional at 16 meters or less. All of their other damage producing abilities are based around consumables which are extremely expensive.

I read that entire thread and the thing that someone said that stuck out at me:
"Once those skills are fixed I think there will be less broken-class-envy towards commandos"
The person was referring to Pistoleer, Carbineer, and Rifleman.
Good grief. The sheer amount of misinformation is killing me.
THANK YOU HOLO! It's so nice to have verification that we are doing what you inteded finally.
OTHER than the fact the flamethrower is viewed as a melee weapon - which I might add we have been complaining about for two months now - it works perfect.
What you don't know is that for the past two months any NPC would put away their gun and run right at us and melee. Considering the sheer lack of damage our weapons did, this was death.
As a master I can fire my special every 9 seconds. It randomly hits a specific ham. I have no choice which.
I have to be 16m or closer to do so. So melee will hit me. I can cue up a heal but it takes 9 seconds. EVEN if I MISS, I still have to wait 9 seconds.
With the new specials the con system actually works now.
Green - no chance. DOA
Light Blue - smack
Dark Blue - pay attention
White - use tactics, healing
Yellow - more tactics, more healing
Red - bring friends
Rifleman pay a damage multiplier because of their unique ability. They attack an unhealable HAM. They should have a downside.
But they have their upside. They get faster and more accurate to the point of speed cap. They get more specials. They can start fighting from 64m and have the NPC dead before it gets to them.
Commando has downsides to their upside of large damaging specials. You have to be 16m or closer. To add the 3x to them means it's a joke to kill us. Solo'ing will be impossible. Trying to use our specials would be suicide.
Let me also add Commandos have 3 types of damage. Heat, acid and blast. The blast we only get better with if we get master pistoleer as well.
Our left click consumable have 28 charges, so just drop how powerful they are. Killing ONE NPC I can use that up. Guns, barring destruction in repairs, can last months.
This class gets no knockdown, no dizzy, no blind, a smidge more defense than a master musician, and is left with 60 skill points after mastery and exploration 1.
If I miss, and I do still often, and I'm duelling TKA. I'm dead. Plain and simple.
And for crying out loud. If you are a melee, make a macro.
1. Target person/npc you want to fight
2. /attack
3. /follow YES..AUTOFOLLOW WORKS ON ANYTHING.
I play a melee alt. I never have a problem staying in melee range.
Knock them down, then use your most damaging special because of additional damage for being knocked down.
I will agree that the HAM costs are too high for melees. But this isn't about that.
This is about the commando. It has it's advantages and it most certainly has its disadvantages.
One of which is that you can be a master commando and not much else.
Ivoni - Shh your giving away my dueling secrets. No, those dueling macro's don't work at all, lol.
Great post, will really enjoy getting my training from you now that I am once again advancing in the commando tree, thanks in advance for all your hard work for us commando's.
