Thread: Wasn't the Heavy Acid rifle's Graphic suppose to change? and HAR questions
Yes am hopeing the HAR gets some love (AP 1 isent to much to ask) or atleast give it some cooler graphics the acidcone 1 dosent even have a animation
. I guesss nobody notices because FT kicks so much @ss but there are some people who use the HAR and would like it to have some graphics.
Personally im disappointed with the HAR all around. HAR is 1 of the 2 workhorse weapons of our class and is one of the things that is supposed to make us unique. There are so many reasons why this weapon should be the acid spitting equivalent of the flamethrower but none more important than the fact that we train 1/4 of our skill tree just to learn to use this thing. But unfortunately it doesnt hold a candle to the flamethrower in that its base damage is lower and its specials have no DOT. This pretty much means that every commandos weapon of choice is going to be the flamethrower, and in a class that already has very little difference between individual players playstyles this will only serve to further make all of us commandos exact replicas of eachother.
The HAR needs to have some sort of a kickass animation like the rest of the heavies do, and the special needs some sort of dot. If it doesnt have a dot, why am I bothering to usethe special at all? The 15 sec delay on specials for heavies is not worth it if we dont get a DOT out of it. No one would use the flamethrower specials if it werent for the DOT because they would be rendered completely useless in PVP and PVE. Hence why very few of us use the HAR unless we stumble across a creature with high resistances to heat and low resistances to acid.
Ante up devs, works not done here.
Still 3k combat exp from novice Commando...
Actually, I plan on using the HAR more often than the Flamethrower. My Launcher Pistol is almost to the point where people say 'it's a decent weapon'... but I did happen to pick up a really good acid rifle... So my running theory is that I hope against hope for a speed slice and start embarassing the BH's with their lightning cannon. And honestly, I don't want a graphic for the acid rifle specials. To my mind, it's not an 'Acid Thrower'... but rather a particularly devious weapon firing (instead of solid slugs or warmed-over plasma) a cartridge of Alien Blood that hits, bursts, and begins turning composite armor into slag.
The only complaint I have is the whole AR1 bit... sure, fine... let it be AR1, but shouldn't it start dissolving armor at a disturbingly sick rate? How about something that, once it hits, makes EVERY OTHER SHOT pierce armor? How about it DoTting innately? No special, just a vial of acid sitting quite comfortably on something very much melting itself to get out of it's way?
Actually, I wonder if we're getting into the area of the John Maclaine/Death Star Theorem? That which has an innate tenancy to blow things up vs that which has a natural tendancy to blow up.. Unresistable Force vs Tissue Paper.
Lynch, Commando In Training
1. Only acid gun in game with AP0 - all others are AP1
2. Speed modifiers do not effect cooldown period of special. All HAR specials have 20 second cooldown. No matter if Acid1 or Master Commando.
3. No Dot aspect really to speak of.
If they made the FX for the HAR look alittle more intimidating then a twirling stick, gave it Medium Armor Penetration and maybe increase the wound damage it'd be a match for the Flamethrower. Even without the DoT effect, the amount of damage the special would do would more then make up for it unless you're against a Heavy armored opponent... for that you hit them with the Flamethrower and watch them roast.
Just my two creds.

Okay, so it's not just mine. My "Heavy Acid Rifle" sounds and looks like a bb gun when I use it.
At least we have +40 accuracy now instead of +10.
Now all they need to do is add the +70 on top (how long has this needed dong now?) and it's going to start looking like a viable weapon. Personally I would like to see the ideal range taken out about 40m (it currently has an ideal range of 0m and we all know what happens to a commando holding a heavy weapon when it gets up close and personal right?).
I don't give a rats wotsit about the graphics, they can make it look like a home made catapult shooting week old tomatos for all I care, I'm hoping the devs are busy fixing some of the real issues and not worrying about the graphic effects of the thing.
