Thread: New Commando seeks Guru
Hi, I just made novice commando this weekend, and worked my way quite quickly up to /flamesingle1.
Last night an imperial was wandering around outside the Coronet Starport showing of his AT-ST (I'm on Chimaera, so these are still rare), so I thought, seeing as I'm a rebel, surely it's my duty to have a poke. So I declared, and ran in, got so I could select it as a target, hit burst run and sprinted in, at 20m, hit /fs1 and it hit!! then half a second later I died, but boy was I chuffed!
Anyway, basically, what I want to know is how do I use the Flamethrower effectively, I realise that I'm still very inaccurate, but I want some idea of how it works for when I get better, I'm more interested in PvE really, but PvP is fun every now and then too.
I've been using the Launcher Pistol a lot, and I've really got it down, Warning Shot is my best friend, and I can solo stuff that's way above me, but I don't seem to be able to do the same with the FF (even when I get a good run and hit at 80%).
Basically, I want a commando guru to tell me their secret tactics ![]()
Thanks!
in PvE Invest some skill points into a MeatShield(Creature handler) then stand behind it and Flame away ![]()
In PvP....Think Hit and Run Durring the confussion...Don't attack head on, don't attack solo(unless you want a suicide bommer effect?
),Commando's don't hold up well to taking damage anymore ![]()
Depending on the race you are playing...
become a TKA... thats what I did.. I can cruise through a 3 stormtrooper mission... in about 12 seconds.. 12 seconds that is to kill the stormtroopers, .... and 5 minutes to burn down their tank plated, reinforced lair...
I can take on Sharnuffs, Bols, Pickets, and Huurtons as well..... they last a little longer than the above stated stormtroopers..but you justhave to be quick and have a battle plan in your head no matter what you are fighting prior to engaging.... be quick with the icons in the toolbar at the top of the screen... know which attacks you are going to use... for me its KD2, FS2, UH3.. till it dies.. oh and keep a good supply of high quality stims in place on the above mentioned toolbar as well.. and until you get there invest in a rock beetle or dalyrake harvester to do some tanking (I know you dont wanna use pets.. BUT) till your melee modifiers increase while moving up the tree(s), you'll have to have something .. or else chose constant grouping or durni, or nuna hunting as a way of life.... I am for the most part a solo player
also get good quality weps. .(VK's & FT's) and hope for high slices.... I also have a max damage 246 LP..which I use on occasion to begin an engagemet at distance using BS1, OCS,then switch to FT
btw I also dont wear armor very often either.... (I do however wear enhanced clothing)...the HAM costs suck on Armor ..(to me anyways)..no matter how good the slice is (IMHO), because I move very quickly... I am working to not only defeat the A.I. of the game... as it relates to the particular mob/npc/creature,but to counter any lag or other nonsense.. (warping etc. ) that occurs in the standard course of any fight.
You'll have to give up everything else.. towalk the path of the trueCommando/TKA ... I did... (with the exception of novice medic {to be able to use stim B' s} sscout,artisan,... everything else has to go... but to me is worth it in the end to be a mega death dealer...
Araido
btw loved your end quote... lol
Basically all I do is, even if its strong resist to fire, burn the target, switch to the LP, use my macro for healthshot one and two then shoot it dead. If it gets close, use the pistol whip attack to drop it down, step back, and blast away again. If I get multiple targets on me, I'll use the flame cone 2 attack and set them all afire and try my best to run around, LP in hand, dealing out damage to all targets I can. Its hard, and maybe not the best way, but I'm learning now to do things as a commando and not as a ch with a ft.
Thanks guys,
I play a Trandoshan, basically for the high Strength and Constitution for those flame specials, although I've realised that with the crazy delays, it wouldn't matter what I was, I've regened way before I can fire again!
The TKA option sound interesting, although I had my heart set on Master Medic, I'll have to 'tweak' my template a bit, I've already decided to go for Master Commando now, rather than just Flame4 + lots of Pistoleer.
I had a lot of fun last night burning Imperials with my /flamesingle1, but they didn't seem appreciate it, I've never been good at PvP, so it only takes someone to be paying attention, and I'm a gonner, but it's all good fun!
I worked out a good tactic last night too, works well with the new 'MOB grouping' changes:
Equip LP, get to about 55m, laydown, shoot Health2, shoot Health1, hit peace, get up, run to about 100m
Equip FF, when they bleed for the first time, they will come after you, but on their own, and you can 'pull' them out of the main pack. Works pretty much all the time, and it's good for animal and humanoid types, also, if it's a particularly nasty type, throw in a WarningShot or two, and if they're bleeding, they quite often slow to a walk, so you can just kite them till they die.
Just need to perfect my Flamethrower tactics, I just seem to stand there waiting to fire ![]()
