Right now I've been trying to concentrate on TKA, but I'm going to need a good ranged weapons profession.. I've thought about pistoleer. I've thought about carbinier. But then Commnado came to mind.. I mean, I'll have great up close and personal skills(tka) and then I'll have commando for the high damage ranged attacks. I'm just trying to figure out what would go good for just hunting and doing missions and also be very good for pvp. Going master tka and master commando will be squeezing my skill pts. quite a bit.. but does anyone think it would be worth it?

thanks alot

High damage ranged attacks? where

The melee deffence of a TKA goes well with the commandos up close almost melee, melee attacks but if you're looking for range go rifleman maybe,

Commando is Lethal at close range.

Flame thrower special only works within 16m.
Heavy Acid Rifle special only works within 16m.

Only thing that would be good from commando line for ranged combat would be the consumable weapons (Rocket Launcher, Heavy Partical Beam Cannon....)

So are you willing to spend 72+ skill points and credits out the wazoo (15K-30K for consumable weapon) for 28-35 shot weapon? Sure nice opener but, you could realy use your skill points/credits more wisely by going Rifleman or Carbineer for ranged "pullin" and fighting.

I'm not really looking for the best ranged weapons or anything. I just wanted something that would go good with my tks skills when I start doing alot more pvp or when hunting very large creatures (if I'm just out for money) I like the idea commando has some of the most powerful weapons. That's what really drew me in. But if commando isn't the best with tka, I may go carbinier or pistoleer.

Commando by all means dishes out serious damage but it's weapons like the flamethrower are close range weapons and it's specials can only be done at melee. If you want range, go rifleman or carbineer.

HI, im almost a master TKA and im half way through commando (got it befor it was fixed). I think they work great together, they have at least for me. It is true that commando is very expensive so you should have a steady cash influx. I think TKA makes you tough as nails and it lets you take more hits during that looong period after flame specials. The automatic wound healing is also nice (meditate). It's also very effective to just pile on modifiers, stun, blind, intimidate, bleed, flamesingle, flamecone, and watch the mobs go down. I think the bonuses against stun, blind and knockdown will come in very handy against those nasty gunfighters and bounty hunetrs. Just my two cents. And by the way congrats on your choice. It is so hard sometimes.''

Yeah, there are a lot of things from TKA that add to the commando such as the defense mods and knockdown.

But then again, if you're coming for range, you've come to the wrong place.

Im currently a Master TKA.. I was never going to plan on getting ranged but when I found out the TKA is a joke in PvP I had to do what I hated the most, and "pick up a gun." Then I thought what would be best for killing evil imperials who use close to invincible At-Sts. The choice was obvious. Pick up commando. Even though I am guessing my Master TKA will do close to nothin now in terms of PvP, maybe it will turn into my support class for my new Commando.

The TKA mods to defense don't work when equiped with any weapon (other than VK's). The trick is though is to use the flame thrower special and unequip it to use the tka abilities to weather out the damage until you can use the special again.

Sorry people, you don't seem to understand the defense mods quite yet. ALL TKA defense mods work with your commando weapon equipped with the sole exception of unarmed toughness. Defense vs. melee and defense vs. ranged isn't meant to reduce the amount of damage that we recieve, it is actually just poorly named skills. They would be better named as melee evasion and ranged evasion. When you have have high values for these mods, the enemy can't hit you as often. This works with any weapon you are holding.

I would suggest to you that if you really want a ranged class go rifleman which was where I was going originally. However, if you plan to use TKA skills more often than not, like me, you will find the best skills in the commando line to be the Field Tactics branch. Using these, you can fight completely unarmed, thus getting your unarmed toughness mod to greatly reduce damage, and when the enemy attempts to kite you, simply toss a post-nerf C22 or better on him. As the new grenades have max damage over 1300 per hit the enemy finds themselves in serious trouble since you will be dealing them quite a bit of damage. That ALWAYS teaches cowardly kiters a lesson.

Did I say post-nerf? Sorry, meant post-patch.

Are ppl 100% sure those defenses are applied when equipped with a FT? My understanding is they only applied when equipped with a VK or unarmed.....which seems a little complicated for the system to determine, but if so, you're not getting much benefit for being a TKA.
