Thread: Question about SOE Policy Statement

Garvin -- I read over the new policy statement released today from SOE. Nothing much new and nothing to concern me EXCEPT for one paragraph burried down the rather long document. Not sure if it's been there all along, but wanted a little clarification. It was the paragraph referring to not being allowed to use "Graphics Intensive Weapons" in crowded areas. Well, now, the only "Graphics Intensive Weapons" that I'm aware of are, of course, the Flamethrower and the Launcher Pistol. Yes, they DO add to lag, clog up the target area and generally polute the surrounding environment. Which (except for the lag part) is kinda humorous and most folks play along with /cough, etc. when I'm rocking out on mobs. I have a 2.7 speed flamer, so it DOES tend to go off quite frequently. But it DOES leave us at a serious disadvantage if we choose to be overt, get involved with the GCW, get attacked in starports or, even (to go literally by the policy statement) when trying to get through the DWB with a couple of full groups. And it doesn't leave us with a whole lot of other weapons to fight with unless we drop down to Master Marksman and play noob. I'm sure SOE didn't mean that they do not want commandos participating in PvP or the GCW, and I doubt that we'll be censured for using our weapons. But I just wanted to make sure.

Thanx much. -- Xix

Actually, this policy has been around for a long time via various CSR statements...The ONLY time I've ever heard it enforced is when a Group of players either started an improtu Lag fest in a public area or planned some Lag fest to protest something...

A Commando running into battle to fight may cause lag, but won't be punished...15 to 20 Commandos all using the same weapon with the same high lag specials (think the Launcher Pistol) at the same exact time will probably asked to move apart or move away from a public area (like NPC cities)...

They just don't want high lag weapons/specials going off outside places like the Theed Star port or other popular places...We often see people make posts that state "lets go stage a lag in to protest ______"....this now worded policy gives them the backing to prevent this type of thing...

IF ANYONE EVER feels they are unjustly punished for just using their Commando weapon PLEASE let me know...send me a PM with what the situation was, what the outcome was and who was the CSR you spoke with...I'll do research into this and get things set right...Squad Leaders had an issue awhile back where they were unfairly be persecuted for using one of their abilities (looked like they were spamming)...it got dealt with and a new CSR policy came about to protect them...I will make sure the same happens for us...

Ah, thanx for the clarification, Garvin. Funny. I actually never think about intentionally messing things up. The game's too much fun and there's too much to do. lol

its funny they mention it though. i remember some time towards the end of last year this being an issue, where some commando group was using launcher pistols to lag their enemies on the battlefields (yes battlefields, thats how long ago this was). anyway, a group would fire to slow down the enemy while a bunch of others moved in around the back for melee combat. thats probably what prompted it all.

I don't usually use the LP, but I noticed this morning that the graphics seem to have changed. It's now a red stream similar to the PBC. And it doesn't polute the environment like it used to. No big boom noises anymore either. :-(

Lag yes.........you know.......we should get special damage. It'll be "Lag" damage and it'll have a X8 damage multiplyer and bypasses all mitigation and armor......hmmmmm
