Thread: Returning Commando Are we still a One-Trick Pony?

Came back to the game to see how the CU affected everything. In general I think the idea is good, but the execution might be wanting (this level thing is a bit artificial).

Now comes the question...are we still a one trick pony.

Pre-CU (my tempwas MC/MSmug/MMarks if I recall) and I did well. Even though the flamer was our one trick I greatly enjoyed the disposable launchers....great firing stance, great particle effect (loved the spiral vapor trail) and great dmg; even the firing icon was neat. Of course finding any good disposables was hard and for many they were merely a side show. We could have just as easily had a tree named Master Flamer.

Now on my return I see our weapons are more spread out on the tree. I like the fact that some of the disposables are now normal weapons, but with the change came a seemingly dramatic drop in dmg. I hope we get some dispposables back at the top of the tree...I cannot seem myself dropping an AT-ST with the launchers I have now.

With no specials now it seems my template is a bit less robust as smuggler is a CC role. I can keep em pinned, but sadly I can kill em faster with my non class specific weapons than I can with my commando weapons. Additionally all I have read is the Plasma Flamer is THE commando weapon...I was hoping we would have a more "different but equal wepaons for different situations" outlook now.

SO, in conclusion a few questions:

-Do we foresee an increase to the base dmg of our weapons?

-Do we foresee an addition of some upgraded versions of existing weapons (ie better launchers)?

-Do we foresee every getting our own specials so commando can be a stand alone profession like BH or MR?

-Do we foresee the reintroducition of Commando only disposable weapon systems?

Hoping at some time in the future I can kill things faster with a heavy weapon than a pistol I just picked up....

we have 1 trick.

laying states on a group of mobs in 1 hit.

i've found it very beneficial to my group to use concussion shot, underhand shot etc on a group.

when mixed with the right profession, being able to lay down a group state is our saving grace.

Unfortunately, Commando is no longer even a One-Trick Pony.

It has become the devs' Court Jester profession... the pitiful 3-Legged Dog trying to run across the street.

My friend is going up Commando right now. He's using the Rocket Launcher. The Rocket Launcher has auto-Knockdown. He's only CL 31, yet grouped with level 80 players, he is invaluable. He saved our asses so many times last night on Kashyyyk, it wasn't even funny.

I realize that the Rocket Launcher doesn't have great damage, but its built-in Knockdown ability is incredibly useful. It allows me, as a Pistoleer/Bounty Hunter/Doctor, to concentrate more on Stopping Shot (i.e. rooting) , Intimidate Shot (self-explanatory), and healingthan using Underhand Shot.

Have any of you Commandos tried utilizing the Rocket Launcher in this manner?

I hate to be such a pessimist, but what part of Commando would anyone within reason want to dabble in, if not Mastering out of stubborness or pride?

For a ranged template to go Commando, they need Brawler's Unarmed IV. That's a WHOLE lot of SPs sucked away for mods/abilities that you simply will not use with a Ranged template. This is even more apparent since Melee/Range templates aren't as potent as they used to be. Their mods/stats/abilities just don't stack together.

Edit to add: As a counter, let me use Bounty Hunter. Instead of Brawler's Unarmed IV, they need Scout's Exploration IV. But at least Exploration IV has a constant usefulness than a ranged character having Unarmed IV in their template. For a ranged fighter/BH to lose somehow Exploration IV is a big loss, IMO. Losing Unarmed IV? I cold care less in the current state of the game for Commando.

More like we went from a "One-Trick Pony" to a "Pony with Irritible Bowel Syndrome"...In essence, our "condition" tends to keep us side-lined, and when we have a flare-up, it draws unintentional and unfortunate attention our way which causes others not to want to be to close to us...
