Thread: Reimagining the Commando Profession

Voila! The ZF-1. It's light. Handle's adjustable for easy carrying, good for righties and lefties. Breaks down into four parts, undetectable by x-ray, ideal for quick, discreet interventions. A word on firepower. Titanium recharger, three thousand round clip with bursts of three to three hundred, and with the Replay button - another Zorg invention - it's even easier. One shot... And Replay sends every following shot to the same location! And to finish the job, all the Zorg oldies-but-goldies. Rocket launcher... Arrow launcher, with exploding or poisonous gas heads... Very practical. Our famous net launcher... The always efficient flame-thrower (my favorite)... And for the Grand Finale, the all new Ice Cube System!

If you've ever watched The Fifth Element since becoming a commando, you know the scene above. The ZF-1 is the ultimate weapon, with everything a real trooper needs in one compact package.

Let me say that again: One Compact Package

The way we're currently set up is, if I may be blunt, retarded. We need to haul around no less than six distinct weapons be have access to all of our class abilities, since all of those abilities are built into the weapons themselves. Rocket launcher for a knockdown, acid launcher for a blind state, flamethrower for a (VERY SHORT) fire DoT, plasma grenades for a bleed, cryobans for a snare, glop grenades for another blind, imperial detonators for another knockdown, thermal detonators for another (VERY SHORT) fire DoT... and then there's that lightning beam cannon which is supposed to slow vehicles down but doesn't, and the particle beam which shoots everything in a line but won't shoot at all if a friendly player is standing in the way....

Wouldn't it be great to shrug off all that extra weight and be able to carry around one single, compact, effective commando weapon system? Instead of trying to switch between weapons in the heat of laggy, unresponsive, queueless battle, if we instead had action buttons like every other profession and could simply push 'Rocket Launcher' to use our multiweapon's rocket launcher to knock our foes down? If a casual push of 'Flamethrower' spewed out a streamer of burning plasma to give those gurks something to remember us by? Acid stream, lightning beam, particle blast, and a handy grenade launcher built in too -- just drop in your favorite grenade type and hit the 'Grenade launcher' button to send one out, postage due.

I might be alone in this but I miss the old heavy weapons, the rocket launchers and acid stream cannons (and that great animation!). I liked being able to have a useful, level-appropriate weapon in my hands and still be able to take advantage of the special commando toys.

In an ideal world, the Integrated Commando Weapon System (ICWS) would come in two or three levels of quality, much like scatter pistols and lightning rifles do for the bounty hunters. It would feature a basic, non-AoE blaster as the main attack, with all the various graphical effects, state effects, ranges and damage modifiers appropriate for the various commando specials, which would all be available at the press of a button rather than requiring an awkward weapon switch.

Heck, give us those arrows too for a ranged kinetic attack and a (VERY SHORT) poison DoT. Why not?

I like it, sounds good, I just don't know if it will ever get off the ground =( you know how the devs are

I see in the year and a half that I have been gone from the commando proffession nothing has changed. The proffession is as nerfed now as it was then. Pity.


I like your idea on theICWS it won't happen but if it did, can youjust imagine the out cry from ever other non ranged profession out there? MyGod my head hurts just contemplating that.
