Here's your chance to get your questions and answers added to the FAQ. If you want it to be an extensive list of commonly asked questions that can be sticked at the top of this forum then read through the list below and if you see anything you think is incorrect or want to add something, make a reply.

Also I wont be around much longer, account closes the 30th, so if someone wants to take over keeping the FAQ uptodate post a reply to this thread stateing so.

It should be pretty much up todate with the recent changes from the last major chaos patch, but I'm sure there's something missing or I wrote something wrong.

Commando FAQ
Version 'something', last updated 13th October 2003

This is a list of the most Frequently Asked Questions regarding the Commando profession. It is based on common questions posted in the Commando forum as well as other questions that has relevance to the Commando players.

This FAQ is written by Morell Taesio with additions by Ivoni (The writer of the Commando guide) aswell as additions from the Commando forum.

Q: Are there any weapon power ups available to the Commando weapons?
A: Yes, with the recent additions to the flamethrower and acid rifle weapons they can now have powerups fitted, this goes for grenades and the launcher pistol aswell. The heavyweapon line can not have powerups attached. (((Someone confirm this please)))

Q: Can Commando weapons be sliced?
A: Yes all of them, even Grenades.

Q: What H/A/M pool does the specials attacks drain so I can adjust my secondary stats accordingly?
A: The delay of the specials on the HAR and Flamethrower negate any possibility of draining your ham pool due to a low cost of useing the specials. The cost of using grenades and consumable heavy weapons mainly drains health, but again the delay on them prevents any real spamming of them.

Q: Where can I find a Commando trainer?
A: Corellia - Kor Vella (-3344, 3292)
Rori - Narmle (-5180, -2350)
Rori - Rebel Military Outpost (3695, -6485)
Tatooine - Mos Entha (1553, 3338)
Tatooine – Imperial Oasis West of Mos Espa (-5292, 2718)
Tatooine - Wayfar (-5038, -6609)

Q: Can I use pistol specials with the Launcher Pistol?
A: Yes, anything that works with a pistol works with the Launcher Pistol too. That includes specials from the Smuggler Dirt Fighting tree, Marksman Ranged Support tree, Marksman Pistol tree, Bounty Hunter Pistol tree and the entire Pistoleer profession.

Q: Can I use other Marksman specials with Commando weapons?
A: With the recent change that made Commando weapons count as ranged weapons as opposed to melee you can now use all Generic marksman abillities with your weapons. Overcharge, Supression Fire, ect.

Q: Is there any character builder websites I could use to setup my character template?
A: There’s an easy to use tool which quickly lets you select which skill boxes/professions you want to dabble in or master along with your Commando profession, it can be found here http://swg.allakhazam.com/db/charbuild.html

Q: Where can I find good Commando weapons?
A: It's best to ask in the forum which houses your server community, use this link http://forums.station.sony.com/swg and look under Galaxies. Many weapon smiths post their inventory on their galaxy forum.

Q: What is considered a good gun?
A: An average Launcher Pistol is 45-176 damage 2.9 speed.
An average Flamethrower is 423-814 damage 5.0 speed
An average Heavy Acid Rifle is 318-704 damage 5.4 speed

Q: What is required to get Novice Commando?
A: Master Unarmed IV and Master Marksman. Engineering IV, Exploration IV and Hunting IV are not part of the requirements to train Novice Commando dispite what many thinks.

Q: What is the best way to get to Unarmed IV?
A: The most effecient way to get unarmed exp is to get a good speed sliced Vibro Knuckles and go beat up on things useing bleed attacks. You can put bleeds on the target as it helps to kill it faster without hurting your exp. If you choose, you can punch your target once, bleed it and then run around out of melee range letting the bleed kill it. Or you can bleed it then engage in unarmed combat with your target if it's not to hard an opponent. If you do this successfully you can earn Unarmed exp with very little actual fighting. You can also use a pet to tank for you while you beat on the target with unarmed and bleeds drain it's hp.

Q: But I’m not Certified for Vibro Knuckles?
A: It doesn’t matter much, the difference between being certified and uncertified is the damage done. You’ll be doing less damage with knuckles equipped but you will still use the speed of the vibro knuckles.

Q: What is a good race for Commandos?
A: No races is better at any profession then any other race, some do have minor bonuses to various skills but it’s more a preference of what you race you’d like to look like.

Q: What Commando weapon has the highest Armor Piercing value.
A: All non consumable weapons have no armor piercing. All consumable have armor piercing. The rocket launcher and heavy particle beam cannon being the highest.

Q: Can you recharge consumable weapons?
A: No.

Q: Does skill mods from other professions work when you are using heavy weapons?
A: Some do, and some don’t. For example Ranged and Melee Defense skills work all the time regardless. However skills such as Unarmed Toughness only work when you are fighting with Vibro Knuckles or Unarmed.

Q: How does +xx Weapon Speed function?
A: The speed is an 'increase' in percent, so +50 Flamethrower speed makes you fire your flamethrower 50% faster then without the skill modifiere.

Q: How long is the “cool down” period after using Specials with the flamethrower?
A: With the flamethrower it is 15 seconds when you get flamesingle1 and down to 8 seconds with flamesingle2 (Skill mods included).

Q: Does the speed of my weapon affect the cool down periode of specials?
A: Yes, the faster your flamethrower is and the more +speed skills the less of a cool down you'll have after the use of a special.

Q: Skill mods doesn’t seem to work with the Acid Rifle, I see no speed/accuracy improvement?
A: Currently the Acid Rifles skill bonuses are broken and does not decrease delay or improve accuracy of the Acid Rifle. What this means is that no matter what you do the cool down of the specials will remain the same regardless of skill modifieres. Also the speed of the gun is never faster regardless of your speed skills with it.

Q: What is the highest Creature Level pet I can use as a non-CH Commando?
A: As a non-CH you can use up to CL 15.

Q: What is the best pet to use as a none-CH Commando?
A: The Mountain Krevol makes the best tank vs Melee opponents where the Rock Beetle makes the best vs Ranged opponents that use Energy weapons. Though the difference is minimal between the two pets, both have an Armor Rating of Light and 2200 H/A/M. And the Rock Beetle has a ranged attack.

Q: What is a DoT?
A: DoT stands for Damage over Time. It is an attack which drains the afflicted person/mob/NPCs H/A/M every 10 seconds. Attacks like Healthshot 1, Healthshot 2, Flamethrower Cone1/2, Flamesingle1/2, Poisons and Diseases all cause DoTs to the target.

Q: Does DoTs stack?
A: Yes Flamesingle1, Flamesingle 2, Flamecone1, and Flamecone2 all stack. For the Launcher Pistol, Healthshot 1 and Healthshot2 (if you have novice Pistoleer) stacks. Put in another way all dots stacks.

Q: How do vulnerabilities in Armor work?
A: If someone has a vulnerability in their Armor they take full damage from a hit as opposed to reduceing the damage if they had a resistance instead of a vulnerability. For example an opponent has Armor Rating Light but a Vulnerability to Heat that means if you attack that target with your flamethrower you will ignore the Armor Rating Light and do normal damage. For more information about armor see the official page at http://starwarsgalaxies.station.sony.com/content.jsp?page=Advanced%20Guide%20Armor%20Fundamentals

Q: How do I obtain the best accuracy when fighting with my heavy weapons?
A: Stand close to your target and use the /kneel command to enter a kneeling position. Prone makes your accuracy very poor(-50). You can also use the Aim command which is recomended to use before a special attack to increase the chance of a hit.You dont want to miss too often with a cooldown periode of 15 seconds.

Q: What is kiting?
A: Kiting is a method used to attack a target while running away from it and keeping distance so your target never catchs up and causes harm to you. This doesn’t work with npcs/mobs/players that uses a ranged attack though, only on NPCs/players that melee.

Q: What is the difference between Flame single 1 and 2.
A: Damage done and cooldown periode after firing.

Q: How does the flame cone special work?
A: The flame cone special sprays flames in a cone towards the target you have selected, everything caught in the path between you and your target inside this Cone will have a chance of being hit by the attack. Though the cone is quite wide it's possible to hit multible targets next to your original target.

Q: I just made Novice Commando, where is a good place to hunt?
A: Basically, every planet has some good places to hunt once you reach Novice Commando. Talus is always a good step up from the starter planets, or you could try the more difficulty ones like Endor, Dathomir, Dantooine or Yavin4 though they may require a group or good preparation for a solo player (Armor, pet, stims, ect.).

Q: Can Krayt Tissues be used for Commando Weapons?
A: Yes, for exsample 5 tissues with identical serial numbers are required for a Flamethrower.

Q: What is the Heavy Acid Beam weapon from Heavy Weapons Support II?
A: Heavy Acid Stream Launcher is it's actuall name.

Q: How does Ranged & Melee defense work?
A: Both skills increases your chance of avoiding a hit from either a Ranged attack (Ranged Defense), or Melee attack (Melee Defense). Tested by Alufnul from the Commando forum.

Hi Jeze,

So, weapon speed does influence cool down. Great to know!! That's an important test...thanks.

I'd also like to add that armor is useful for commandos, but is currently bugged. The HAM costs of specials are so low that heavy wep specials in armor are easily recovered. I think the designers planned on us using armor of some type. You can refer to the site for full details. It's also useful to know that only humans can migrate into composite for the most part. As a zab, I did find a set of composite I could wear, but it was made by a master and sliced by a master....and cost me 500k. No biggie until pumbas were made extinct.

The armor bug is a "hole" seen by the combat system if you are wearing either a backpack, undershirt or belt. Not easy to get rid of backpacks unfortunately.

These may not fit into the faq, but are more of an FYI I suppose....

GL in whatever game you move to next.
