Thread: Thinking of giving up Commando

I have spent alot of time making commando. Have Flame 4 and Heavy 4. I am also a 3 3 1 3 CH. To my surprise commando is not the powerful fighter I though he would be. If I send my heavy animals in on hunting I can do some serious damage in PVE. But in PVP commando should be tagged Mr. Wussy. Creatures are worthless in pvp. Every battle I have been in ends the same way. Combat medic poison disease mind I am lucky to fire 1 shot from range before I drop. My animals maybe take 1 bite then stop cause I am DB. Or I am knocked down dizzy knockdown, get up knockdown over and over until I am Db.

The only real fight I have been in that was not spammed with poison or knockdown resulted in this. Non Ch pet chewing my arse.. my pet attacking... me missing 3... I repeat 3 flamesingle2 shots on a guy... me standing there for the delay 3 times until the non ch pet chewed me up and the guy bleed me out. This was with flame 4. So I guess it looks like I have to join the dark side and become a combat medic knock down shot player.

For anyone to say commandos rule PVP they just have no idea what they are talking about. Anything that knocksdown or poisons rules PVP. My flamethrower does great damage if I can get under 15m and actually land a flame shot. This is near impossible with someone knocking you down or draining your mind in seconds. Im very disappointed in commando in PVP.

If you think you have an uber tactic that will kill Combat medics and knockdown shooters lets hear. I honestly dont think it can be done 1 vs 1 against either. Even if you land your uber dot flame and incap them. If your poisoned in the mind you are lucky if you can get to them in time for DB. They just come back after incap heal up and DB you.

What kills me is PvP.

Is there a point? I mean..really. For fun sure.

The sad part is PvE. Nothing compares to the Grand Mauler for a tank.

Easy fix. Go up the smuggler dirty tricks branch, get your own knock down and dizzy combo and use overcharge shot on your Flame Thrower from 64 meters.

think about how many times you do PVP

I was a BH but gave it up for Commando it has a lot op weapons thats fun and i hunt a lot so just keep in mind what you do the most in the game.

If you hunt a lot Commando is by far the best profession and for PVP well maybe not THE best but also quite good

Once I am finished with playing commando for a while and experiencing the highs and lows (seems like there are just lows now) I am going to ditch commando completely, it is a total waste of points for the damage you do and the penalties associated with the weapons. Of all the skills I acquired I will just keep pistol 4, ranged weapon support 4 and unarmed 4.

With the rest of my points I will play around for a while with TKA for a while until i get bored then leave Balance Conditioning 4 and ditch the rest. Will also have Dirty Tricks 4 from Smuggler and go for master pistoleer. With the remaining points I will have enough to to be able to make and use stimpack Ds from the medic line and enoough to get exploration 4 in scout so i can zip around the terrain.

I'll end up with a ton of defense from TKA and Pistoleer vs melee, vs all kinds of states and can just spend my money on a few very well crafted DX2 pistols which are AP1 and acid based which are far better than AP0 heat based attacks. My damage will be marginally worse but you will have far better specials with states and Last Ditch with a good DX2 can deliver a ton of damage.

You will also have very good accuracy and can hit moving targets whilst moving with fair accuracy. Commando's only real hope is to shoot at stationary targets not aware of the commando. That is not really my idea of a commando, thats a sniper rifleman.

This template was something I thought would be interested but never had a dream of butchering my commando to make it, now with the changes to our weapons I will definitely butcher the character. Getting hit for 660hp by a voritor lizard on Dantooine then hit for 80-100s when I unwielded was the point where I thought F it, its not worth it, the damage is okay but my damage with a DX2 is not that far off when you look at the dps. Damage from the flamer specials is nice but I could inflict the same damage with a pistol in the eternity of not being able to do anything firing off the flamer specials.

If you dont dabble the only person you are penalising is yourself.

The Dirty Fighting line in Smuggler seems to be helping me a ton in pvp. Low Blow then panic shot (if both hit then they will be on the ground for at least 10 seconds) then walk up and light the grill.

Yea I'm thinking about dropping Novice Commando myself, and I currently have 1-1-2-0.

When I first got this game a little over 6 weeks ago I started out as Novice Marksman, what can I say i'm a fighter, and have played a lot of first person shooters. But as I began exploring the higher professions, Pistoleer, Rifleman, Carbineer and then I seen Commando. So I started on my goal of becoming a Master Commando, and I was quite happy onceI got the required xp I needed to go get my Novice Commando training. Then things when to downhill after that. I went from maybe missing 1 time in 15 shots with my trusty Laser Carbine to missing 5 shots out of 6 with the flame thrower I thought ok maybe the accuracy modifiers are not up there yet, so I went out and bought myself a Heavy Acid Rifle, almost the same results (and whoever heard of a rifle that you use inside melee range?). It almost makes you wish we had amove called the Butt-Stroke (i.e. taking the butt of the weapon and applying it to the head of your target so it knocks them down). At least we might have a better chance of hitting something, considering all the melee training we have.

But at this point in time the Commando profession is seriously broken, and from what I've seen over the past week or so it doesn't look like anything is going to be fixed anytime soon. I'm a very competitive person and have been for many years and I like to win, plus I know its not possible to win every time. But I had times I've beaten the odds. But the odds are so stacked against Commandos right now it isn't funny. Since becoming a Commando I have not won a single PvP battle using Commando weapons, so now in PvPI either use my Carbine or Laser Rifle at least with those, the most I have to worry about is poison tossing combat medics. Or some lamer using the Group TEF to attack you from behind, which is odd since they don't show up red on the radar until after they get in the first shot.

But I do hope that one day the Devs will get their act together and properly fix the Commando profession and weapons, because I still have the goal to wear the Master Commando tag.

If they simply gave the commando a skill tree for the launcher pistol I think alot of this fustration could be avoided. That's what's pissing me off right now. I'm FORCED into using my flamthrower. I'm a master commando, but intil I take up pistoleer there is no point in having a cert for a launcher pistol.

Don't get me wrong....I've thought about master bouny hunter. I honestly have..onlyl becuase they have a pistol that works...but NO...NO, I will be strong. I didnt bust my ass for all this time to turn my back. I will wait. if I could wait for the devs to fix our heavy weapons then I can certainly wait for the rest.

I would give a little while before ditching Commando all together. SOE is a many headed beast and unfortunately none of the heads know wth each other are doing from day to day. I would definately take the opportunity to bank some other weapon exp, max out pistol/carbine exp while we wait for an answer. It seems the devs are avoiding the issue all together atm, we've seen this happen before with other nerfs to other professions. I won't say too much about SOE since it's a sore spot for me but be confident that we'll end up with a decent game in spite of them in 6 months or a year.

I understand your pain...

Just a question... Why are you CH 3313 ? Are you enroute to master? Because if you were going to stay there, why not go 4404? You could call 2 pets at significantly higher level than now and you would have the transfer pet command. If you are concerned about teaching trick, you can transfer to another CH friend with trick 1, have them teach it, and transfer back. It would cost 1 more skillpoint (for 3 top-tree boxes) than you currently have invested at 3313.

My original plan was go to 4 4 0 4 in CH.. But after researching the knockdown it looks like I have to go up Dirty Fighting in smuggler to have a chance in PVP. As someone said knock them down and overcharge shot with flame. Thats my plan now. I have to sacrifice some commando and ch points to do it. However, the feign death will help me even more while hunting. So I guess its worth it. If I can call lvl 45 creatures at say 4 4 0 3 I would be happy. Im not a total PVP player but when I am in PVP I just want a chance to win. The poison and knockdown dizzy is driving me nuts. Thanks for the suggestions.
