From a 12 point weaponsmith, you'd and likely get something like speed 3.6'ish, damage 500 - 900 or so. That's pretty good, and that's pre-slicing. Slice it now and get a decent (30%) speed slice and it would be 2.5 speed. Get a 30% damage slice and it would be 600-1100'ish damage.

From there you'd have to get it sliced. Since slicing will work better post CU, you'd be better off waiting until after the CU to have it sliced.

Also, since existing flamethrowers will convert as Plasma flamethrowers, if you don't plan on being a master commando then you shouldn't have the flamethrower made until agter the CU.

i just recently a FT made with with -1.002 or thereabouts tissues with only + 33 damage. Combined that with a form-fitted stock from the imp retreat, and had a FS 12 point smith craft me a 2.8 speed 900+ max dmg. unfortunately it damage-sliced, and only 23% at that, so it's now 2.8 speed 1100+ dmg, which is good, but not amazing.

To make a really good flamer in general you need some tissues that substract 1 or more from speed. saw a couple made with -2.4 tissues on corbantis (i think) ws forums. 1.6 speed 900+ dmg unsliced....
