Thread: Overpowered? I think not!

First off this is my first post in these forums, I've read them extensively for some time now and I think I have a fair idea of the ups and downs for commandos.

It kinda annoys me seeing all the 'nerf' and 'overpowered' yells comnig from the community. Imade a new character which I have spent a few weeks bringing up to Commando in anticipation of the patch that came recently (for all you bandwagon screamers that means I started BEFORE the patch).

I have taken it slowly and even after the patch went on I hadn;t actually reached novice Commando, I achieved this about 4 days ago and now have FLame Specialisation I and I have been delighting myself and feeling real special cos I can kill Dewbacks and Mountain Squills with ease.

Yeah I'm the man, I'm so **edit**tough...see my flames, burn sucker! BOOM! Pretty effects etc etc etc.

Then I missed...oh boy did I miss...like4 times in a row...with flamesingle1...no chance to heal (that will teach me to spam it) next thing I know I'm picking pieces of myself off the floor of the cloning centre.

Now admittedly I have yet to test my missing skills in PvP so I can't comment on that aspect but something I saw tonight really struck me as awesome. And it wasn't a Commando, it was a TKA.

I was running back from a mission and saw this wookie surrounded by about 7 dewbacks..."holy S**T!" I say to myself, "this dude needs help!". So being the valiant and badass Commando that I am I charge in yelling all manner of warcries and flaming left right and centre.

Next thing I see is the dewback I targeted charging me and 3 corpses...hang on...there were no corpses 2 secodns ago...another corpse, meanwhile I'm still missing like theres no tomorrow (go me!).

The smoke clears and my lone dewback is walking away with a fraction of its life left (launcer pistol soon fixes that) and this lone wookie standing amidst 6 dead dewbacks.

Holy crap that was impressive...I bet if I hadn't come along he would have done it all with one arm behind his back and without even breaking a sweat.

DPS? Mine is currently worse than a joke, this wookes? The complete opposite, hitting once every second or so for about 700/800 each...man thats some serious damage. I do 600-1100 with normal attacks on average and roughly 3300 with flamesingle1. So thats a 10 second (approx) delay on my special which equates to about330 DPS output...wow, or with regular attacks its around 300-400.Big difference.

And we are overpowered?

This TKA (2 boxes from master it turns out, we went on to smoke the nest together...him getting the lions share of the xp hehe) plastered half a dozen Dewies without any struggle (yes he healed once or twice that I saw but still!).

Now before anyone suggests it, I am in no way asking for a TKA nerf, I understand they are a troubled class as it is, this just really struck me as a truly awesome sight.

Maybe with flamecone2 I'll be able to do similar things, heres hoping

Sorry for the long post, call me a noob, my main character is a Master Tailor so I'm new to the world of guns and things. All good fun and I think I'll stick around. But how can anyone logically call us(you) overpowered?

I fail to see the problem...although I can see many fixes that need to be made hehe.

- One happy(ish) noob Commando.

Hi foxman, welcome to the commando boards, I hear your story and there are a couple of things that you might want to check to use your toon at its full potential.

1) Flame single 1 is not really worth it, you'll do more DPS by just firing. Of course if you are in a group, then its worth it for the DOT, but use it wisely. Always have some stims on hand.

2) Launcher Pistol should remain your main weapon till Flame 3, if not Flame 4. Around those times, our accuracy improves a bit and it becomes manageable, we still miss 25-35% of the time though.

3) Make a macro for all your flame specials putting the /aim command before, +30 accuracy is a dandy.

4) Climb the heavy weapon Tree, they rock, but are expensive. Its like a FS 2 shot at 50m without any delay.

I hope you'll love commando, we ain't overpowered, but we can be a real asset on a battlefield if used correctly.

Thanks for the advice man, I already had /aim in a macro for flamesingle, it works pretty well but thinking about it, you are dead right abotu the DPS aspect...I've been using it alot less now (ie no spamming) and I typically use it as a 'finishing' move when missing isnt quite so crucial. I find its often the first shot that makes or breaks the tougher enemies.

I also setup a macro to use my launcher pistol with both bleed shots in one go, much easier of course. A very capable weapon I find actually.

Heavy weapons are one thing I haven't really paid much attention too yet...I have yet to see them for sale but then I haven't been looking either.I will definately want to give them ago though.

Expect to see more of me round these parts, if only as a silent observer

yeah i remember a pistoleer complaing that the flamethrower shouldnt do more damage than his pistiol. i couldnt believe what i was hearing, i tried explaining to him i am shooting a liquid fire that sticks to the target and he is shooting a laser but he still didnt get it. Some people can be really stupid

I bet the main reason the police keep people away from a plane crash is they don't want anybody walking in and lying down in the crash stuff, then, when somebody comes up, act like they just woke up and go, "What was THAT?!"
