I know before even asking this that you're currently under a non-disclosure agreement and can't share with us even a fraction of the information you have bottled up inside you
. Having said that though, can you confirm / deny whether a change to the way DOTs work was mentioned during the correspondent summit ??
Now I don't mean the skill based DOTs that certain professions have (such as our burn, or a pistoleers health shot) but those lame mind fire lances that the no-talent PvP'ers run around with.
Even now with our "uber" armor and buffs these things destroy us in PvP, but if those two items are going to be hit with a nerf during the revamp as has been repeatedly whispered (and of course the confirmation that the new combat system means we won't be able to spam specials in an attempt to take people down quickly),then surely all this does is mean that we're going to end up dropping even faster, unless of course the revamp has plans for altering / nerfing DOT weapons as well ??
Is there a glimmer of hope of this happening Garvin, or isPvP going to be the same situation post revamp of trying desperately to hit a defense stacker with a mind fire weapon as they run thorugh huge swathes of opponents, dropping a mind fire on them and then running away to hide while they wait for the DOT to tick us down to oblivion ??

Weapon power and DoTs did come up and will be addressed in the Combat Revamp...that's about all I can say (although I'll add that our DoT isn't changing for those curious...maybe even getting a bit of a boost if all goes well...)
The Devs, at the summit, did feel that there are some very noticable unbalanced items out there ingame and said that they will be addressed...
Those most Uber won't be feeling so Uber once the revamp is done...

I sense a disturbance with our fire DoT doing alot of wound damage with that little item.

Music to my Trandoshan, pinkhot pants wearing ears. Those DOT's are for the skill less and cowardice! IMO. Yea really cool you found it and all but WAY overpowered. BTW, who dumb idea was it to add those? Is he still working at SOE? Has he won an award for single handedlyruining PVP?

common sense to me says that Bh torso shot and out DOTs will remain in PVP - all those crazy 500 str FIRE pistols and pikes will be restricted to PVE only
Hardcoded DOTs will work in PVP - DOTS from looted weapons will not
at least I hope anyway

The key to the whole revamp is unlocking how each of the changes to each area (armor, HAM, weapons, damage, speed, specials, etc) all effect each other...each change on their own would make even a sane person go "what they heck is that suppose to accomplish"...but when it sinks in, the bigger picture, it makes perfect sense and actually makes you feel this game is progressing to more strategy and tactics to win a fight (not just building the perfect uber template)...
With that being said...If you are most curious about how DoT's will be effected and how they wil be effective in battle post Revamp, pay close attention to the updated HAM changes when the public docs start coming out...There will be something in there that even the programmers I spoke with felt could be a VERY good reason for us to get our DoT cranked back up...
Other then that, as far as I've seen, our DoT is staying exactly how it is and how it effects our targets (although we should see some of the bugs worked out)...With the revamp, don't expact to be putting Flame DoTs on people 64m away...but do exact to be able to get people into DoT range without getting yourself killed trying to do so...It'll come down to tactics and how strategiclly you invested your skill points in regards to the situation you are presently in...

The profession DOTs are fine i just hate these damn looted DOT items, no point to PVP when someone can hit you with a 11-56 CDEF pistol that burns you for 543 mind damage every .7398 seconds

I agree with u guys that thesee needs to be fixed.. but for some pros.. it's one of the only thing going for them... i was a Pikeman and i don't think u guys understand what medigation does to their sticks... it turns them into toothpicks... blunt...toothpicks.
They need to nerf the loot rates and variety of these weapons.. but I'm against taking them away from the game completely
and NO i'm not pike anymore... not fighting for myself

I don't think anyone has mentioned anywhere taking them completely out of the game, and I can agree with having them in-game to provide a good tactical advantage. The point at which I think they become game breaking and nothing more than an "instant-win" feature is when you take on a Pikeman and his combat queue looks like this :
Use special A
Mind Fire #1 sticks
Switch to lance #2
Use special B
Second DOT sticks
Switch to lance #3
Use special C
Third DOT is applied
etc etc etc
I don't see where this requires skill to do, its just a cheap way to score a win. Yeah, Pike needs a lot of work (as do other professions) but justifying this kind of tactic by using that as an excuse is beyond lame. If you remember, Commando has been gimped for almost a year, and our answer was to stack burn DOTS, the result : We got nerfed, and this was despite the fact that ANYONE can extinguish a burn DOT by going for a swim. How many people in game can put out a mind fire ??
My concern was that if these weapons aren't looked at, and have their power seriously weakened, then post revamp when buffs, armor, and other professions ability to "spam" specials has been reduced, all thats going to happen is that these DOT users are going to end up being even more powerful. And how many of the people who play as a pikeman solely to use the "instant win" feature provided by these DOTs do you think would stop using these weapons if their profession got fixed, and could no longer justify their tactics with "but our profession is broken, it's the only thing we have.. wah wah wah *sob* " ?
(Note : I'm using Pikeman as an example profession simply because they tend to be most reliant on these weapons, but I know any melee prof with access to these weapons are also guilty of this, they just don't use the "its all we have" excuse as much)
