Just a thought, but when Commandos are made a viable class, will we be able to objectively identify whether we are balanced or not? We've been crippled for so long that any improvement at all will seem like a floodgate breaking, and just barely being able to get by in a decent fight might seem like the Holy Grail to us. After these fixes go through, we should be very, very careful with comparing ourselves to other combat classes, because the sort of repression we've been dealing with might give a sort of backlash, making us feel more powerful then we are, but it also might make us feel like we're still not what we should be.
Further complicating matters is the fact that the profession we would best be compared to, Bounty Hunters, are also somewhat broken, so we have no accurate yardstick to measure up to, and the Specialist classes are a different animal entirely. It will be difficult to objectively measure our combat effectiveness, but after these changes happen, we will have to do exactly that: discard our previous perceptions of playing as Commandos, ignore all other classes, and collect concrete data from our own experiences, based only on new information. Then, only then, can we compare to other classes in an effective and unbiased way.
In short, don't go showering glowing praise (or withering hatred) on the developers in the first hour after the changes. Wait and see if you really are hell in a handbasket, or make sure that kreetle didn't just fluke out and bite your leg off.
Kneejerk input provides kneejerk fixes, you know, and we don't need any of those.
